DonutHolePurple used to be a very rare and expensive color so only royals would wear it
Within the Catholic church , purple is reserved for Lent ( the period when the Church celebrates Christ's journey to the cross/Easter)
So for catholics purple represents sacrifice, penance and is also worn at funerals
I think that's where u might be getting the idea it represents sympathy or sum
Purple always reminds me of lent/Easter for this reason, especially the idea of sorrow/mourning

London slang for a monkey was Jacko, even deep into the 50/60s.
