If you met someone like David Lucas (never seen his stand up so I don't know for sure) in person I'm sure you would think he's funny and likeable, but stand up is a performance and these people are not good performers

Furthermore a formula-based approach of punchlines and set ups to this type of comedy won't help, if you want to make observational political comedy there has to be some sort of tension to it, you don't necessarily need the right concluding opinion but you should be able to make observations that aren't so obvious and cliche

It goes without saying Nick Fuentes is a bigot, but I have laughed seeing a clip of him talking about how stupid other conservative commentators are, because he's right about that and his perspective on it is unique

It’s a weird line with comedy cause you should be able to tell intention behind the jokes. Sometimes is just harmless jokes but then you get Steven Crowder or other political people just saying his beliefs and hiding it behind a joke. I don’t think you should dissuade people from making jokes on a topic but you can absolutely s*** on someone for making a bad one. The right really shouldn't be getting mad at jokes though, they were the main ones defending comedy and calling people snowflakes for years.

maybe you are that much of a sour puss in person and you would challenge them thinking you too are a freedom fighter for standing up to a comedian, but a professional comedian would have some charm about them in person, it gets lost when they're out of their depth talking about something like politics or doing a poorly written performance on stage

So saying they're altogether not funny reads to me as a false equivalence and besides the point, their stand up is not good and not being funny is not necessarily the broad problem

I have never listened to or watched any of the comedians mentioned in this thread, have never heard of most of them either, I'm certainly not defending them by saying that their stand up probably sucks but giving the advice of "being funny" is not helpful and plainly reductive
