Are people just misunderstanding this? What’s the criticism?

It seemed entirely intentional that we get knockoff versions of Morpheus and Agent Smith.
People say this is crap visually, but 1, that lifeless desaturated feel is by design and 2, it actually brings forth new visual concepts and ideas (some of which you highlighted).

The Wachowskis stay being misunderstood.

People mad it’s not as green, that it’s meta and that the action not as good as the og trilogy. Action was a letdown for me but I came around to the meta stuff and I always thought it looked great visually. Once the other people itt wake up they can explain how we’ve had people come to say it’s s*** and insult us personally for enjoying the movie. It’s been wild

The Matrix is the perfect franchise to be meta tho, I thought it built on its themes perfectly.
It even touched on red pill culture.
