Alrighty looks like real discussion happens in here?

I liked a lot of this movie. I liked being back in the world of the films. I liked seeing Keanu and Carrie back as Neo and Trinity. I liked NPH a lot. Jessica Henwick was great and I even liked Yahya as Morpheus more than I thought I would.

But then, Smith. That did not even remotely feel like Smith. Now I get it the Matrix was rebooted and thing s aren’t the same but Billy just did not feel like Smith at all. Niobe felt… off? I feel like Jada hammed it up a little too much. Also like zero reaction from Niobe to the new Morpheus didn’t sit right with me.

Then the meta of it all. At first I thought it was fine, then it felt overbearing. I get the commentary on reboots and Hollywood today but sometimes it felt like Lana was starting to lose the story a little bit.

I do get why Lana did this film and I see how the loss of her parent impacted the film and that was touching.

Leaning toward a 3/5 but I’m not sticking with it yet.

I think I’ll have a rating on rewatch.

Yeah I disliked Smith and enjoyed the fight scenes in the previous films more but overall it was pretty great for me. Imma say somewhere around 7-8/10 on first watch

Or needs animatrix 2 or comic or game to supplement but I’ve said the writing horrendous at times and ironically people don’t read those post and say I’m a fanboy so

did the OG matrix movies have a second unit for the action sequences ?

feel like if this had slightly better writing / less meta talk and better action sequences (the hand to hand combat is the only thing thats bad imo) this wouldve been goated

this is basically a pilot episode for the matrixverse
they should have had neo doing cooler s*** tho super jumping with the force push would have been dope

hmm i disagree with ur point about smith actually

i think the whole point of this movie was to show new versions of morpheus and smith u know? like an updated version and i actually think it worked very well

and jonathan groff was actually a highlight for me in this movie i think if he just tried to be the same smith as hugo weaving he wouldve failed hard. i think he actually held his own against hugo which is crazy

do agree with the point about meta, that part where that french dude talks about during the fight and after was also the whole office scene with the dudes discussing the new matrix the post credit scene it was doing a bit too much
