I can’t see how any black man who went 20-30 years without seeing yourself represented in superhero media would say retire an entire character just bc an actor died
Lmao like John Stewart on Justice League cartoon was a big deal to me as a jit and now we just quick to kill off the only black male focused superhero franchise that kids have?
Chadwick himself would probably think that wasn’t the right move
Trevante Rhodes + a movie that acknowledges something happened by having Shuri having to find a missing or thought to be dead T’Challa and then continue as you were going to
Let the success of this trilogy be the motivation for Hollywood to fund s*** like Static Shock to where all this is eventually the norm
Currently you can get over 250 Black Panther comics on Comixology for free.
It’s Comixology and Amazon’s way of honouring Chadwick.
Looking more likely that they’re going to have a new Black Panther and not recasting. From a new interview with Marvel Studios EVP of Production Victoria Alonso

No. There's only one Chadwick, and he's not with us. Our king, unfortunately, has died in real life, not just in fiction, and we are taking a little time to see how we return to history and what we do to honor this chapter of what has happened to us that was so unexpected, so painful, so terrible, really. Because Chadwick was not only a marvel of being human every day that we spent together the five years we spent together, but it also seems to me that as a character what he did elevated us as a company, and has left his moment in history. I know that sometimes two months go by or three months go by in production and one says, already, it was a long time. But it is not a long time, we have to think carefully about what we are going to do, and how, and think about how we are going to honor the franchise.

tbh they can just reintroduce MBJ as T'challa through the multiverse movies. perfect Segway into why we have a new Black Panther.

Yep.
Don’t want MBJ as T’Challa
Keep him as Killmonger.
Trevante Rhodes
Stephan James
John David Washington*
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II
That would be my shortlist to choose from off the top. Idk if JDW could deliver more than a generic African accent though.
Damson Idris
Eli Goree
Just watched this
Good perspective on the topic of actors that have untimely passing and what to do next. If moving on too quick is disrespectful

JDW would be a great black Panther
Trevonte rhoades too. ![]()
Mbj just cause it would be a great gag for the MCU to harp on. Everyone would be confused af at first like killmonger is T’challa from another verse
Incorporating Chadwick’s passing into T’Challa’s story (with the irl circumstance) is honestly the only way to continue gracefully.

A delay of filming of only 4 months seems like they may not be rewriting the entire script to have Shuri as the new BP.
If they do decide to recast I hope they look at Malachi Kirby
he gotta be kraven or namor
You think they introducing Kraven in this rather than Spider-Man 3?
You think they introducing Kraven in this rather than Spider-Man 3?
wouldn't be a bad idea plus i know coogler wanted kraven in BP1, but they might in spider man 3 esp with peter parker identity being known. idk a lot of things could happen
The more I think about how fast this is going the more I’m thinking that they’re recasting, and I’m in full support of it.
If they’re filming in July, that probably means they didn’t make many changes to the script. Pre-production has to start soon and there might not be enough time to redo everything right for a July shoot.
While nobody can replicate what Chadwick did as T’Challa, the character existed before him. It would be a disservice to the character to just toss him aside like that.
The character of T’Challa deserves more than one solo film, and there are plenty of actors who can take on the role. It won’t be the same, and it’s going to be weird, but it’s an eventuality that someone else, some day was going to play T’Challa.
What I would love is that the new actor taking on the role gets the blessing from Chadwick’s family.
Story wise, Shuri isn’t ready to be Black Panther yet. I could see her taking more responsibility in BP 2 and start training. Then becoming Black Panther in the third film.
