No one to blame but Disney/Sony. Dune and Odyssey set their dates in advance, signed IMAX deals early, and are 2 premier films shot in IMAX and released with IMAX 70mm film.

MCU thought they could chaotically swap dates and then step on others dates to bully their way to IMAX screens or force Dune to change its date entirely. Might have worked in a previous era but not anymore.

They'll be fine. There's other premium offerings out there and none of MCUs films are shot in IMAX. Its just to upcharge ticket prices

Its fascinating they're even trying this. Even the name "Brand New Day" was taken from the soft reboot following them erasing Peter and MJs marriage from memory. At least it'll prob be better

The mcu Spiderman was different, but we're at movie 4 now, more than tobey and Andrew, and the start of a new trilogy. It would of been a perfect time to make a shift especially when no one remembers who Peter is

That might've been true for Doomsday, but not Brand New Day. Both BND and The Odyssey were given July 2026 release dates back in October 2024

Sony set that knowing damn well Nolan not only had a week earlier, but would also dominate IMAX for several weeks. Then they pushed it a week later to try to use the "every film gets 2 weeks of exclusivity" angle knowing damn well Nolan's IMAX demand extends far beyond 2 weeks. Nolan signs these contracts extremely early. Same thing happened with Oppenheimer with Barbie getting blocked out and Tom Cruise running around Hollywood to get Mission Impossible more than 1 week of exclusivity.

They kept it because regardless, Sony likes July for Spider-Man (only reason NWH didn't release then was COVID delays). Doubt they care cus they're keeping it and the film will do well. Also doubt cast cares because three of them are in Odyssey as well.
