Dope alright to start the best scene in far from home isn’t even in the movie.

The deleted opening bit that had a “down on his luck, poor Peter Parker” was more “Spider-Man” than anything else in the movie.

Selling his action figures to try and make enough money to buy MJ a gift, while at the same time fighting a mafia crime family(something these movies really should show that the video game did much better) all with funny annoying wise cracks. That was more of what Spider-Man is than anything this TV movie attempted to do and it’s a shame it was cut.

That kinda is a big problem I have with far from home, it barely feels like a Spider-Man movie, it feels like any other mcu film, a problem homecoming just doesn’t have.

Let’s say it’s not anyway

Here’s what he does do that fits in line with the character in the comics and live action adaptations.

• Assists in organizing a Charity for those who suffered from the Blip/the Homeless
• getting himself into uncomfortable/unfortunate situations because of his desire to balance out his Spider-Man life with his normal life.
• always seeing the good in people (one of the valid reasons as to why he’s so easily tricked by Mysterio)
• saves others at the cost of his own safety (very clear examples within the film i can list later)
• always attempting to be helpful even at the risk of annoying/obstructing another hero’s actions.

I have more examples ready but i wanna see where the conversation goes.

Lemme just say Homecoming is my third favorite Spider-Man film so anything negative i have to say about Homecoming will be said from a very loving place still

If you think of far from home as a ‘spidey takes Europe’ fun one off story like they’d do in the comics, it becomes good

I always want experimentation with all of these characters.

If that means giving Spidey a break from NY for some time. That’s fine with me so long as the core traits of the character are intact

this man mysterio gaslights the f*** out of him, making him have HUGE trust issues

Mysterio shows him a corpse of Iron Man fresh af from the grave and says directly “maybe if you were stronger he wouldn’t be dead” bro straight ruthlessly had him get hit by a f***ing train (to me spidey should have been f***ing dead)

They clearly don’t just stay in their home area, they go do s*** outside to protect the greater good OR OR like Peter in this film.

Agreed with you but I will say they always stress that “if it’s deleted it’s not canon” and I wish the general audience got to see that opening, because it really is very strong and shows just how much they really do understand the basics of this character, I just don’t understand the decision to cut the scene, I think it added so much to this cinematic version of the web head even if it is implied because scenes like this are lacking in the movie.

But back to your point I agree with you they definitely do hit on those marks but to be honest it’s almost the bare minimum for Spider-Man and while I’m not knocking them I would hope that they got those elements right.

I will say I do like how the two movies parallel

In Homecoming all Peter wanted to do was be “Spider-Man”.

And in this Peter wants to do anything BUT be “Spider-Man”

But homecoming felt like such a rich world that was shaped by the MCU and breeded the villains that a “Peter Parker” would actually go against and not just like another run of the mill Villian trying to “kill thousands of people” for whatever gain that a lot of these movies fall into.

Vulture was almost sympathetic and played into Spider-Man’s humble roots to make a villain that was actually interesting on more levels than “I’m a genius that’s pretty crazy!!!! I make illusion’s!!!”

As much as I like the “spider sense” awakening and the illusion scene that car ride with Peter and vulture had more depth than anything in far from home. Hell, vulture felt more threatening in that scene than anything mysterio did the entire movie.

I think having to make this movie immediately after endgame was a real disservice. It feels very rushed at times. I’m curious about your take on nick fury, and the glasses?

This is kind of a side note bit that Deleted sequence is canon as the short film "Peter's To Do List"

I would argue it's as canon as the Marvel one shots And Sony even reinstated it into the Extended Cut

i would agree that Vulture is a more sympathetic villain and has a interesting connection to Peter Parker outside of being a causality from Tony Stark’s decisions.

HOWEVER (and i think i’ll be arguing primarily through preference here)
Mysterio’s general unhinged demeanor and amazingly well constructed play acting casts a really interesting light and outlook on the character’s motives & intentions that would further his own interests, it’s beyond just being petty about being fired for him… I think there was a feeling of being wasted, his cohort being wasted, his invention would be only seen as Stark’s, making a placement on the world whether through a lie or truth… it doesn’t matter to him, once he got the glasses he’s got a vast amount of resources to keep up a certain charade on going.

How far he’s willing to go to see it all done is really terrifying tbh, while Vulture’s conflict is scary and more personal, Mysterio’s conflict with Peter becomes more personal the closer (spidey) he gets to stopping him

Unveiling his secret identity for the world to know and having us the audience speculating on whether or not he’s even really dead (i don’t think he is)

I definitely agree it should have made the main cut.

I could only guess as to why they cut it, maybe to make more time slots for the theaters? Idk

I see your point about mysterio, honestly it was a fun twist in the movie and clearly these movies play on the “father figure” thing with Peter and to keep that going but this time he messed up is great. I really like Peter telling mysterio he won’t be fooled anymore, s*** was pretty classic.

Maybe I’ve been too hard on far from home tbh, your post has definitely turned some things around for me. Gonna have to give it a rewatch(was going to anyway for no way home) sooner than later.

You point out “preference” and at its core I think I like the more personal story’s with Spider-Man and his villains and less “avengers level threat” type storylines.(less nick fury, more street crime type stuff)

That being said I’m extremely excited for no way home and let’s be real…it’s pretty avengers level so maybe I’m a hypocrite lol.

A lot of the jokes didn’t feel as solid as homecoming but like you said “prefrence”. I guess a lot of my problems with the movie wouldn’t be the movies fault and more that they have to make Spider-Man so connected with the avengers because he was in infinity war and endgame(which homecoming wasn’t really forced to deal with on the scale) I kinda am hoping for a retcon in no way home and a college trilogy. But we gonna have to see lol.

for instance i could calmly explain things that i dislike about Raimi Trilogy and TASM movies as well that would make me feel like they aren’t my personal preference of Spider-Man movies but i will always be able to see the good in them as well, what they did better (or just as good) as the ones that i have in my top 3

And as for villains… I think out of all the live action Spider-Man movie villains they only really flopped on Electro and Harry Osborn in TASM 2 and (Sorta) Venom in Spider-Man 3 tbh.
