i know this meme has been beaten to death by people like hitopfilms but i think the mcu movies are good 'movies' but trash 'spider-man' movies

i honestly just don't like the direction they took mcu peter in tbh. i mean, bro trusted mysterio with stark's glasses after meeting him like twice

part of the reason why i believe raimi's spider-man 2 and even spider-verse are so great is because they're peter parker/miles morales movies first. like, spider-man 2 is a peter parker movie first and spider-man movie 2nd. most of the mcu movies play into the novelty that they're superhero movies first. and seeing every superhero interact with each other is also part of the novelty imo. i think you inherently lose the 'characters' by doing that though. just my opinion

you do understand that Peter is a 15 year old vulnerable kid? And that mysterio is literally an illusionist that was manipulating not only him but everyone in this world.

just like TOBEY spider man, Holland’s was conflicted about being spider man at all and wanting a normal life.

Considering the circumstances of the movie this is a very specific situation that i think both of the other spider man’s would have been tempted to do.

Considering Holland’s is still very much a kid, yeah it’s easy to be fooled into trusting mysterio who hadn’t given a real reason beforehand to not trust him.

this is like a horrendous take lol by your logic

Spider-Verse had other spider man characters that had their own personal stories and arcs in the movie.

Homecoming and Far From Home utilize Peter’s relationship with Tony but it’s still very much Peter’s story

Just like Spider-Verse is still very much miles’s story

bro i know homecoming and ffh are peter's story

i'm saying that spider-man 2 is literally a peter parker movie first. peter's life in spider-man 2 is falling apart because of the consequences of him being spider-man. every single time peter puts on the suit in sm2 he deals with the consequences as peter parker. hence my point on it being a peter parker movie first.

IMO, the mcu movies barely highlight any of the consequences of peter being SM. like i said, they're for the novelty of being superhero movies. may literally finds out at the end of homecoming peter is SM and LITERALLY doesn't care in ffh.

peter parker's life sucking is inherent to the character and it doesn't feel like peter's life sucks at all in the mcu movies

It’s not all bad for Peter in every medium.

Breh eventually becomes the CEO of his own company

His life doesn’t have to be s*** in every single movie.

    fair enough

but would you not agree one of the defining characteristics that is intrinsic to the character of peter parker is that his life sucks?

Peter literally lost out on his crush choosing to go after vulture instead, he lost out on his “internship” with Stark because he was trying to prove himself too much, dipped out on his best friend to go do hero work.

FFH consequences are at their highest with his identity being fully revealed by the end and having to balance out his own school/romance life with actually saving the world.

man got his ass beaten by thanos, lost tony
as well, that’s pretty f***ing sucky for Peter’s life as well i’m sure.

Having to tackle the responsibilities of being his protege

  • Apr 20, 2021

    SM2 - goat
    SM1 - great
    Spider verse - great
    Homecoming - pretty great
FFH - eh, Mysterio saves it
SM3 - messy but some great moments
ASM1 - the leads are good, everything else bland
    ASM2 - bad

he lost the stark internship but gets glasses that can control the world

At certain points of his life it gets real low and those are the most defining moments of his life.

As much as I like the MCU movies they haven’t had one of those defining Spider-Man moments on screen.

Ben is dead but they have passed that. I feel like this next one is going to have one of those defining moments that bring his life down.

One thing the MCU seems to do is take away his father figures in one way or another. Ben, then Tony, then in a way Mysterio. They each teach him something important but their deaths (or lack there of) affect him in different ways. Peter is trying to navigate the world without someone guiding him and as soon as someone is there, they get taken away in one way or another whether it be death or betrayal.

Idk if we’re going to get “Death of Gwen Stacy” low for a bit but you can’t say he isn’t sacrificing anything. His sacrifices are just low stakes in regard to his overall life.

Not showing up to decathlon because he is stuck doing Spider-Man stuff sucks, but it’s low stakes.

Now being on the run because his identity has been exposed is pretty s*** for him

he lost it and earned it back.

you can have s***ty things happen in Peter’s life and him resolve that s***ty thing within one or two movies.

Stop moving the goal post lol

can you clarify on “defining Spider-Man moment”?

Like Uncle Ben’s death is a defining moment because it motivates him to be Spider-Man, but that was done off screen.

The Death of Gwen Stacy would be one

So would him having to trade in his marriage to Mephisto in order to keep his identity secret. We’re halfway there on this one but I don’t think they’re using Mephisto for it.

Something that sparks a major change in his character.

You could say Tony’s death is Ben’s death in the MCU by proxy and it makes him try to be a hero on his own volition, but they kind of already did that in Homecoming at the end after he lost the suit.

I think something that changes his life completely would count as that in the explanation. If someone close to him dies in the next one, I would count that because it’s a major change in his life. But this would be like May or Ned and not another hero dying in battle.

    thanks for the clarification.

I’m sure No Way Home will give us that “defining Spider-Man moment” for Holland.

I guess it’s hard to say if Tony’s death for me is a defining moment for the character.

Ima go with no for now.
