Finally rewatched and it confirmed my original opinion of this movie. I think ppl are letting the flat out craziness and wtf nature of the idea of this movie and that kinda worked cloud their judgment. First off is it a good movie. Yes, I'm a Spiderman fan and I enjoyed. Also, I love where they left the character. We need a Spiderman less connected to the MCU.
Overall, I liked this movie even less on second viewing. The excitement of seeing all the villains and seeing the 3 Spiderman in a movie together had died down. I've been pretty critical of the MCU Spiderman movies as a whole so I dont want to come across as a hater. In fact, I think Tom Holland is a great Spiderman and has potential to be the best of the 3 if handled right in upcoming movies. However, the plot of this movie is so insanely dumb it becomes hard to ignore. Basically, the first half of this movie is the worst of any of Holland's Spidermen movies to me.
This movie is saved by Dafoe and the flip that happens in the apartment scene. From then on this movie does a great job with it's premise. I mean the Aunt May death scene is f***ing phenomally done and the shot of Spidey in this rain is so perfect. But for me it does not fit with the beginning of the movie and how lightweight everything feels. I think the first half was so clumsily done and it isn't as interesting on second watch. I mean the Spiderman on the run was a great starting point but they basically just sped through that in 10 mins to try to get the multiverse thing going.
Also, as a side note you can really tell that this movie was filmed during the pandemic. And I think the film is hamstrung by that. The settings for the majority of the scenes are in a dark cave, an apartment (even though the fight was pretty good), and scaffolding on the Statue of liberty) All of it was dark and uninteresting looking as a set. I get there was a pandemic but we really gotta think about the fact that we all of Spiderman's famous villains in a damn apartment building. Goofy as hell. Sandman sitting on a couch waiting.
I dont want to sound like I'm hitting this movie to hard. But I had some of these feelings when I first saw it and everyone around me was so excited that I kinda ignored my problems with the movie. Everyone was saying this was a top 2 Spidey movie and I just don't see it. Right now I'd say it's top 6 for me. But that's just my personal opinion.
One more shoutout to Willem Dafoe again though. Like he really is the goat. I really believed that he was reformed and that flip he does holds up on a second watch

I agree with a lot of this mainly, it felt claustrophobic for the scale of events & , they sped through some things that would have been pretty compelling & didn’t/weren’t able to play into the court of public opinion angle that much, that could have been much grander—also minimal scenes in school
Mj Peter and his bud not getting into that college was so damn nonsensical and contrived. Then when he saves that lady she said she'd get them I. Since he was a hero, the thing he's been all along
I agree with what that dude said tho it gets much better after that cheeseball sitcom beginning starting when norm went full goblin in the apartment

Yup. I think the fact that a movie like this even exists makes that they almost pulled it off amazing. I think it blinded fans a little

it could been anything, it’s simply to show he did something he assumed was innocuously selfish for himself & destroyed his & others lives, you’re not even mentioning the actual contrived things in this movie, like the callback lines or the miles morales line ☠️

The references to the older movies I'd call member berries lol...that said until you said that I forgot all about the multiple cringey and played out "with great power COMES..." lines including "HOW DID YOU KNOW THAT"

Yeah I hated that lil part as well ☠️

yeah true, I went into this without rewatching any of them recently, so I see this as a good spidey movie with crazy stakes & a lot if memorable scenes
It's funny how ppl pointing fingers as if ppl are just arbitrarily turning against the movie. I think most folk just starting to see it for what it actually is. Cuz ima be honest, the hype even played me until I started thinking about the movie more.
Yeah, the fighting scenes werent amazing. They were good, but not something out of the box.
And it felt so fast paced. Some scenes really needed some breathing
You know what, I just watched the Raimi fight scenes and you're right, the fight scenes here weren't amazing. I think what I meant was that Goblin scene at the apartment complex was dope. I think if they had built the movie around that kind of tension and suspense it would have been a far greater movie.
This movie getting the TFA treatment now
Now I just pray people wake tf up about The Batman not being a masterpiece. (still good though)

Masterpiece is way too strong there's so much they can improve on going forward lol

Agree with all of this.
When the exposed his identity I was so excited to see how they would play it out.
Feel like the multiverse thing was a cop out and just uninteresting since we also just got Into the Spiderverse.
I'm tired of nostalgia bombs.
From the ending it does feel like a soft reboot so hopefully they don't backtrack and do some other time travel stuff to get people to remember peter again.

Legit seeing people on Twitter going after Dark Knight (Returns and Nolan's films) and OG comics to try and say that The Batman is better than all of them

This s*** happens with basically every movie. Some fake ass fan s*** tbh

"The Dark Knight was bland and overrated!" refreshes page to see if notifications coming in

true tbh there are very few "perfect" movies to me but sometimes id rate something a 5/5 even tho its not perfect yk
They had to let people know
Using Zimmer's theme instead of Horner's theme like in NWH
Still a great film, the only thing that bugs me is how they kind of fumbled the first act. If they would’ve added 30 mins to the movie and dedicated most of it to Peter being on the run at the beginning of the movie/courtroom scenes i don’t see how it wouldn’t be the greatest superhero film oat
Fully agree
Honestly this movie should have been something like Infinity War / End Game.
We 100% needed a part 1 movie and a part 2. There was just not enough time spent with every character. I wanted more time with Tom fighting the case. I wanted more time with Andrew. More time with tobey
It just felt rushed and maybe it’s the fan in me that just wants MORE but man I wish we got 2 films for this story
