I’ve seen 48 movies this year and this was bottom 12. It’s just so lazy and pandering. The movie treats the audience so dumb and knows it will work every time like parents just waving a rattle in front of a baby’s face to make them gasp and laugh.
you've seen 48 different movies released in 2021?

Yes. I just watch like 1 movie each week. I’m in a film discussion club so I try to stay up on stuff. A lot of it was streaming this year though
Watched about 60+ movies this year and this was top 5 (along with Titane and Red Rocket) 🕶

That’s fire
I’m gonna try the 1 a week thing in 22 after reading this
Is that a new film every week or just anything

Man… I feel like a jerk for bringing my negative vibes in here though. You seem like good people fr

I go to school in the city where there’s like 3 theaters within a few bus stops so luckily there’s usually something interesting most weeks even if it’s more under the radar indie stuff. I definitely look at reviews though and don’t just force myself to go to anything. A lot of movies and docs on HBO Max too. It’s good to have a few days to think about stuff though. I feel I don’t let movies reach their potential if I watch something right after that kind of interrupts my thinking on the previous one so 1 a week works good.
Rewatching all the Spiderman films. Never seen the 2 Amazing Spider-Man movies back in the day, only the Raimi ones. And man, why is Andrew Garfield so annoying in this lmao.

Ive watched 183 movies but i dont think i got in more than 20 2021 releases lol
Anybody who thinks this deserves a best picture nomination is absolutely delusional Marvel-pilled. There isn’t any creativity in this, it was just a lineup of action figures saying iconic phrases and meme references. Dr Strange himself even admits how nonsensical the plot of the movie is. Lazy writing to just bring these characters together by any means necessary (and that at least was cool)
Yeah this definitely doesn’t deserve a Best Picture nomination because it’s not high class cinema in the way Black Panther and Joker are!
F*** outta here with this pretentious ass take
Keep in mind I love Black Panther and Joker, but it’s absolutely ridiculous to act like it’s a laughable idea for No Way Home to be in the conversation for a Best Picture nomination after those two movies have been nominated in the last two years
And sure, I get the reasons why those were nominated, but the Oscars don’t nominate every single film that appeals to their tastes, and they damn sure aren’t perfect 10/10 films that justified them getting nominated

I’ve seen over 500 movies this year and, like, 35 were released in 2021.

It’s a comic book (and by comic book, I mean COMIC BOOK) movie, it’s not intended to be seen as high art.
The MCU as a whole is almost it’s own unique entity in and of itself, there isn’t really anything else like it in cinema, or ever has been.
I don’t see them as great films (although there are some really good ones that stand on their own) but a dependable means to have a good time for a night, like a concert.
They’re still superior to like, 95% of action/adventure movies, but especially the shlocky ones we got from decades past that were actual cash grabs. At least these tend to feel like films made by people who have a real affinity/passion for their respective characters and that’s undeniable.
At the end of the day Hollywood is a capitalist system and they go where the money is, and the money is in comic book movies. It used to be westerns (and I’d say the ratio of good to bad is much better now than it was then in terms of quality control).

Y’all serious about best picture nomination?

lol
If no way home don’t deserve best picture nom THEN WHAT DOES
There’s not 5 movies better than it this year
