I still don't understand what the reset charges actually do. do they prune the whole universe or just the small area affected by the variant? and if it's the latter, I got a hundred more questions

like okay you arrest Sylvie and place a reset charge in her bedroom in asgard. then what. Odin comes in and his daughter is just gone, like he thinks she's been kidnapped? wouldn't that create a branch?
