Just finished Love & Thunder. I can definitely understand the disappointment in the movie. Its biggest issue is its tone. Much like many Disney/Marvel movies, it doesn't know how/when to take itself seriously. I felt like as I was watching the movie I was getting more worn out by the humor than actually enjoying it. When it is funny it's hilarious, but there are moments in the film that definitely could do well with some maturity instead of dumping it all at specific moments.

Christian Bale was great as Gorr, and the movie could've used a bit more scenes with him to flesh him out and to make you feel like he could be redeemed, or at the very least, make you feel some sympathy. In the end when he made his wish I felt nothing. Like...yeah bro you can die now. Maybe if they spent more time fleshing out his motives one could see him through a tragic lens. We can understand that yes the gods are jerks, but it's not like he is any better as the gods he slays put other realms in jeopardy. He's doing it for selfish means and didn't really think his plan through. It's not until the end we actually find out his plan as well, and he admits that his plan was flawed.

All in all this just seems like another movie that was victim of pandemic filmmaking. Some pretty stiff acting between some characters, and some awkward action/fight scenes. It's not an awful movie, but where it is bad, it's pretty damn bad. At the very least, the movie is fun and it has many sweet moments throughout.
