That doesn’t make them good tho. This phase had the overall worst BO performance for a reason. NWH proved that if the films is good, people will show up, yet a couple of them struggled to make a profit while others didn’t quite reach expectations performance wise.

Almost every phase 4 film is considered to be lower-tier marvel. Did the phase 1-3 writers dip after endgame to pursue other projects? Wtf happened there? Don’t even get me started on them weak ass shows.

Here’s to hoping antguy and secret invasion brings the vibes back

Hold on a minute… I’m not disagreeing that Phase 4 had a quality issue, but the obvious reason that this phase had the worst box office overall is because of the pandemic. Box office numbers across the board have been down since 2020.

No Way Home was an anomaly and is easily one of the most anticipated movies of all time, can’t compare that to every other Phase 4 release (box office wise)

I still think Penn Badgley would be a perfect fit. His character from You has very similar traits to Reed (besides being a serial killer of course)

Recently rewatched S1 & I love that guy, straight up weirdo. I wish the rumors about him being in talks were true cause I really fw it

This was an acceptable excuse before NWH and top gun proved that we’re back to usual

Hell, even MoM would’ve done 1B+ if word of mouth was better

Marvel have really fumbled the bag post-endgame like i said the only one with true staying power has been NWH.

Casuals ain't eating like they used to because they can tell that alot of these projects have been cash grabs with no effort.

I think the general public are starting to become a little exhausted with superheros in general.

    agreed

And NWH isn’t even marvel. They’re in a bad spot rn

personally couldn't convince myself NWH quality wise is any better than the majority of phase 4 lol. it was just the first real big screen multiverse s***, and on top of that they juiced it bringing back fan favorites. 0 to do about quality of the movie imo. i mean the plot was arguably the worst of phase 4.

It was 100% riding on nostalgia but was still a fun watch in the theater. I also think it only looks so good because the rest of the phase was s***-mediocre

Nah it’s definitely way better than the rest of Phase 4 for character reasons alone, not to mention it actually has satisfying setups and payoffs

totally. prolly the most entertaining for sure, just don't think that necessarily equates to quality. if quality is tickets sold then yea for sure its best of phase but idk. that plot sucked man. reforming villains? really?

almost hurt the rest of the phase too by getting viewers expectations up about the multiverse. only other time we saw it was MoM and the illuminati was really lack-luster/did not create that Toby/Andrew buzz.

Spider-Man trying to reform villains is textbook Spidey tho lol

Since when is reforming villains a bad thing, especially for Spider-Man? Seems pretty in character to me.

I’d hardly call it nostalgia bait if all the nostalgia served a clear purpose in developing Peter’s arc & character

apologies im super super not familiar with the comics. to me it just seemed stupid/predictable. maybe more so that it was Aunt May's idea lol.

my bad im entirely unfamiliar with the comics.

your second point is accurate albeit i think i would still call it nostalgia bait. they presumably could have developed peters arc and character in a similar way without toby/andrew (granted i am not a writer or involved with screenplay so). not saying i have a problem with the nostalgia, just that it was part of the reason NWH was extremely successful.

I mostly agree with you but I actually liked the reforming villains part. It was campy

    Aight aight it’s all good.

But yeah, they would’ve put him through the same without those two guys. No idea how, but it was damn near written in stone after all the IW/EG shenanigans.

They can go bolder with the multiverse & it’s kinda wild that it’s only been used twice so far tho

doesn’t sound like they’ll do much with it this year neither, except for Loki

It is nostalgia bait from a real life “why did they decide to have them show up” standpoint. But that makes how substantive Tobey/Andrew are done in the story more impressive tbh. They could’ve easily did the shallow thing and have them waltz in for an empty setpiece, but their presence is meaningful to Peter’s arc. And on top of that, THEIR stories get satisfying payoffs it’s actually crazy they pulled all this off lol

wild for sure, but i respect it. the public, maybe even myself included, woulda been on them if they kept polluting the movies with multiverse cameos. seemingly we wont see much of it until loki as you said, later down the line.

facts. this is all facts. it was really well done outside one or two small things. never felt forced for sure.

agreed. they have also imo done a poor job at explaining just what has f***ed up the multiverse. was it peter, was it loki, was it strange, wanda, or just a combo of all of them.

I like Loki being the thing, but No Way Home indirectly set up the first incursion thanks to Morbius
