Martinez could either play cb or as a dm. I think we could possibly see a 3 at the back with Martinez going to midfield when in attack.

Yeah the short a***ysis video I watched on him made it seem he'd be perfect for a role like that. I'm just praying the plan isn't for him to be in a centre back pairing because it seems like it would exacerbate his weaknesses on top of being pretty superfluous

If we needed a new defender for a pairing I’d still go for Torres, but Martinez is a kind of player we don’t have at the moment. A very fast and agressive defender that can also play ball, so wouldn’t mind him coming in at all.

I think you can see both sides to it:

• The cynical side: Man Utd are pretty clueless with scouting, make it up as they go along with whoever the manager is and don’t appear to have clever alternatives when a player becomes too expensive/doesn’t want to join; OR

• The more optimistic side: Ten Hag wants to adopt possession based football, we don’t have the optimal players for it, so he’s targeting players who are familiar with his style of football to make the process as smooth as possible. First season, so you can cut him a little slack in that regard.
