Rudiger-Bailly would be the most entertaining CB pairing of all time

Sounds exciting, heard comparisons to Cavani?

Benfica's been robbing clubs blind for years. When will they smarten up

Nah. Massive wage demands and only at his best in a back 3.

These old, final-paycheck driven players we should steer clear from. No denying there's quality there but it's time to build something new and long-lasting.

    I think he's a respectable #9 but 70 million is mad.

They've made a killing over some pretty ordinary players. Even Joao Felix, who is phenomenal, went for a crazy fee. Benfica are good at what they do

Jorge Mendes shadiness is the reason for 99% of those. Plenty are perfectly reasonable prices though.

Regarding Nunez: should look elsewhere if that's the required price. From what I understand he's just a pressing machine but other elements of his game are lacking - touch, decision making. And while yeah he's on a ridiculous goal run, it's pretty unsustainable ultimately.

Striker market is pretty s*** atm though - hence inflated prices

They're reasonable prices maybe by today's standards. Back then, those were exorbitant prices.

Witsel, Jiminez, Lindelof, Gaitan, Markovic, R. Sanches all for a combined 200 million pounds is crazy. Darwin for 70 would be just another addition to that; he might have gone 40m four or five years ago

Failing to qualify? There is a 0.1% chance we make CL

  • Apr 13, 2022

Could be good, clear out the old guard and use the funds for a meaningful player with only 1 competition to focus on don’t need a massive squad same 11 can play every weekend.

I just wouldn't really put much of this down to Benfica being really good at selling players. The figures obfuscate a ton of dodgy s*** behind the scenes.

Witsel's figure is the most glaring at a glance. But easily explained when you look into Mendes and Gazprom
    goal.com/en/news/1717/editorial/2014/10/01/5147042/jorge-mendes-the-man-at-the-heart-of-monaco-and-zenit

Markovic may have flopped but he was very highly rated.

Sanches was also very highly rated, there was a big bidding war - we were in for him. Was starting for Portugal in the Euros at whatever age he was. Think he won young player of the tournament.

And then a bunch on that list again it's due to Mendes f***ery, Peter Lim f***ery, and the dodgy player rights issues. The case for any of those who went to Valencia.

    transfermarkt.co.uk/corruption-charges-against-lim-amp-mendes-prosecutors-used-tm-market-values/view/news/374820

Jiminez is Mendes - Wolves and Nuno. And can assure you no Wolves fan felt ripped off in any way paying that fee.

Lindelof and Gaitan are very reasonable.

Hindsight is 2020. A lot of these were very highly rated players. There's a reason why the team's buying them are the biggest in the world. Naturally that results in a competitive fee. And for as many that have flopped on that list, just as many have done very well.
