There's a massive difference between long term building + short term upswings but from what we've seen so far what could possibly tell you Carrick shouldn't be in contention?
It's bizarre
If Carrick stabilizes the team in a top 4 spot, he should obviously be given the job.
But I wouldnāt offer it to him until the end of the season. Itās evident that the players respect him and heās done the impossible so far - got this team playing their standard brand of football without embarrassing the club. Even at his best, Ole was somewhat difficult to respect as a manager

If Carrick secures top 4, continues with this football, and gets like 9+ wins from our last 14, they canāt with a straight face try and offer a De Zerbi, Glasner, Iraola et al. type of manager.
Only ones Iād accept being in that scenario to be in contention are the ones with actual proven CVs like Enrique, Tuchel etc.

Even with Tuchel, is the juice worth the squeeze? There are probably diminishing returns there as he is known to wear out his welcome quickly. And weād be waiting until after Englandās World Cup campaign. Him or Conte may have been an attractive option during the Ten Hag/Amorim eras, but another advantage of keeping Carrick is that things seem a lot more harmonious right now behind the scenes. I donāt want to get into Glazer/ownership nonsense bc it remains to be seen how well Carrick will be supported in the summer.
But whether itās a new coach bump or not, Carrick is utilizing the players at his disposal well. No need for systematic purges for tactical signings so far⦠Iām tired of the sideshows at this club.
Enrique may be the only coach in world football where you pause right now and consider

The main issue I have with rating Carrick is that his predecessor was so obviously clueless that I wonder how much of our turn around is actually because of him and if it wouldnāt just have happened under any decent manager.
But I agree if we really win 9 out of the next 13, thereās no reason to go for a mid level manager like Glasner Tuchel etc

If you do go elsewhere, and they don't get off to a good start the noise is going to be huge and rightly so
You will set whoever up to fail. They won't have played for United, "won't get" United and all that s*** all over again.
Like I said all depends on the end of the season but this notion it can't possibly be Carrick is just insanity
I donāt see how people think Tuchel would work for us tbh, guaranteed to fall out with the club hierarchy and get sacked two seasons in.
United fans are going to United fan!
Hopefully Ruben takes Mason Mount with him when he swindles his next job. You wonāt have to deal with us anymore!

Iām not the one letting the board off the hook again
Due diligence is foreign to this board because the fanbase does their job for them and makes it easy. It happened with Ten Hag and itās happening now.
Enrique isnāt going to happen, full stop. Tuchel wonāt work. I will kill myself in the center of the pitch if itās De Zerbi, and none of the other realistic candidates move me much, if at all. I like Carrick, and there is a world/scenario where I would welcome him as the permanent, but the conversation around him and and the future is asinine after only four games.

Most realistic good option is Xavi, who Iād be ok with tbf. But letās wait until the seasonās over

This is a good take, I donāt understand how people can get carried away so quickly with Carrick after the whole Ole saga.
Donāt trust Ineos with managerial appointments at all either, theyāve massively failed twice and two terrible managers have been a hindrance to the club - and thatās being respectful.
Have to wait until the end of the season and see where we are, whoās available, and who would want to come.
West Ham actually gonna be a really though one, theyāve won 4 out of their last 5 and only barely lost to Chelsea. If they keep it compact I donāt see us winning easily
