I prefer De Ligt over Maguire when we play with a higher line against worse opponents, but this team would definitely be good enough for a top 5 finish. Hopefully PL gets another CL spot next season.

I think it's pretty much guaranteed at this point with 9/9 clubs still playing European football and that much difference in points

Good to hear, I think our squad is around the same level as Chelsea’s and Liverpool’s (even though they shouldn’t be after their spend craze). Hopefully Chelsea’s new guy turns out to be a dud and hopefully Liverpool keeps S*** for another month or 2. Very good chances of getting CL.

Really interested in seeing what plan Carrick can come up with for our problems with breaking down low blocks. I think just having Martinez and Mainoo back in the team alone will be a major boost in that tbh.

Respectfully speaking I think United squad is not on the same level or even that near to Chelsea’s or Liverpool’s, besides the defense, which is pretty much comparable with the two (and GK in Chelsea’s case, Lammens clears Sanchez I think).

I’m not saying it’s bad, there’s a pretty decent core, but still not too close to the likes of Chelsea & Liverpool. Way more quality & depth in their cases, especially in midfield, that’s like day & night.

Cunha & Mbeumo surely took the attack up a notch but depth wise United still quite lacking in that area as well. Taking into account current forms of the respective attacks though, Mbeumo alone clears both Chelsea & Liverpool’s frontline I’m afraid lol (besides Ekitike, but Gakpo & Salah atrocity combo takes it multiple levels down so I guess it cancels out)

Martinez moreso - his ability to break the lines is top class

It’s true we lack depth in midfield if Mainoo or Case gets injured we’re f***ed, but our defense is definitely better than both Chelsea and Lpools aside from Dalot ofc.

Liverpools attack is pretty awful. Salah and Gakpo are straight s***, Isak and Wirtz haven’t found their footing, Ekitike and Szoblowjo are their only attacking threats. Chelsea got a lot of depth in attack but lack any really great players there. I think we’re all pretty even.

You must remember we only have one game a week for the rest of the season, so I think we’re really fine for depth in attack and defense for this season.

Ultimately of course it would be an embarrassment for Liverpool to finish below us after last season and their record signings.

oh yeah if we’re talking just this season then sure the squad is more than fine for the remainder of it, taking into account only one game a week will be played (even though the team still could def use an extra midfielder, Case injury could f*** a lot of things up I suppose)

On Liverpool’s attack - heavy agree that Salah & Gakpo are straight s***. However, Wirtz’s been pretty great since like December when Slot realised he’s not gonna cut it at no.10 and went back to Grav - Macca - Szobo (mostly). Macca still remains terrible but the movement in the squad definitely unlocked some of Wirtz’s abilities, looks way better from the wing. Easily the best player in the team after Szobo & Ekitike. On Isak, think that would be quite unfair to judge yet since he’s out for the rest of the season, yes he did look s***, but still scored some important goals against Spurs & West Ham when he finally got into an occasional goalscoring opportunity. Not that I would want to defend him too much, Ekitike definitely showed way more with less playing time in that period, however seeing the general play it was hard to blame Isak most of the time. Time will tell if this was a suitable purchase I guess.

And regarding the standing in the table, I have almost no doubts at this point that this team will finish below United if Slot stays in charge. At least there’s still some hope for reaching the latter stages in the UCL where the team somewhat performs, so I guess that might become a preference anyways at some points later in the season if they don’t get eliminated soon. Top 5 finish in the prem won’t be no fun though, definitely gonna be a tough job should things stay like this, lowkey very afraid of ending up 7th or some mid table s*** like that the way things going & especially looking at the current state of the defense.

Those two and Bruno being further up should definitely help, quite interested in this Fulham game bc they’ve also started climbing up the table.
