to be fair Roma could have easily came back with all the chances they were getting. Those two goals we got from our stars were crucial to Roma ultimately giving up in the 70th minute and playing a strong team was the right move in retrospect

There's a lot to it, you're never gonna trust players if you don't give them a chance to earn that trust. As @Root said, not giving these backup players adequate opportunities earlier in the season means that when we do need to call upon them they wind up off the pace and Ole doesn't want to risk it. But that is simply unsustainable on our starters. And it breeds a complacent mentality where you get performances like yesterday because players don't feel any pressure from competition.

I saw it more as a rust thing besides the occasional perils of playing Fred and Pogba in a pivot against a team that presses high up the pitch. All the second stringers were horrible imo while our starters played quite well so you may be right about playing them more consistently
