newcastle liverpool games always kino (that 3-3 last season was easily one of the best games of the season to me) and today it had that extra spice but i feel like newcastle fans always loud even when i see them against other teams few times in the season

Id still argue we might have the right manager - there are positives they just don't translate to the pitch properly yet for a few reasons, having some of the worst players in any united fans living memory certainly doesnt help

the thing is his system doesn’t fit this team at all. the way he uses certain players is baffling. if you are gonna run 3atb at least do a 352. that way you don’t lose midfield battles & mainoo could be used. what’s the point of the ccb stepping up into midfield as a ball playing cb just have an 8/6 to do that job. if teams sit off you they don’t feel any pressure.

i think if he adjusts with a 352 that is at worst ã top 6 team due to the quality of mbeumo yoro cunha zirkzee bruno mainoo and whoever else. 2 midfielders kills you unless you got unicorn guys like baleba or kante.

The inverted CCB is one of the tells people follow noise and don't watch games well enough for me (or maybe just don't understand)

It baits the press and allows Yoro in most instances to get down the pitch and carry nicely which we've seen he can do well. The issue we've seen in the follow up since is that because the midfield options are wrong there's usually a pass missing to continue momentum

The idea is to use the 8+6 in very specific ways but because the 6 options are Ugarte/Casemiro and they can't dictate play very well Fernandes is stepping up to take part of that role because he covers a s*** ton of ground anyway, which is fine to a degree because he can do it but it's not ideal

Signing the "6" could step things up massively and then bring the ability for Mainoo to come in. Mainoo doesn't currently dictate play the way Fernandes does or cover the ground he does

So you bring in a proper 6 and it allows for Mainoo to come in easier imo. Why I understand he's not playing. Right or wrong is separate

Its the downside to him being fixated on set play styles again. Your 6 options are Ugarte and Casemiro. Cas will get you 45 mins but be shot after. Ugarte no words. Neither do the desired job if you had a gun to the gaffers head probably he'd admit

Fernandes does so much if you take him off it reshapes everyone's roles mid game in a drastic way - part of the reason why I believe he's a net negative. His heat map on most days is the entire pitch. Scholes put it well imo before when he said he'd hate to play with him because he'd have no idea where he was

We see similar problems with the wing back - Amad does a good job then Dalot steps in as the sub, and it starts to look a lot weaker instantly (and in the last game as an example we conceded pretty soon). Its why id maybe reverse the roles like we did at Arsenal so the sub is positive, but you want Amad playing

The glimpses look incredibly positive. Arsenal was a good performance. Fulham started off well again. Cunha, Fernandes and it's a done game pretty swiftly. but because it wasn't and we really were terrible after so it makes the problems quite ugly to see

Lil MNF a***ysis over now lol. Its all a huge work in progress which will take a lot of time. If we don't get results going its going to result in that to get scrapped which is fair enough. No one's denied results dictate football but it's also why last season wasn't enough to execute him

Casemiro/Fernandes is what you put forward as the best midfield for the big PL games apparently

So why not in this one go the opposite and run Ugarte/Mainoo
