No club strategy no matter the dire situation the player market is in, should have only 1 viable transfer option like a Mbuemo.
Even if you want to focus solely on prem proven players you should still be willing to veer off in a different lane as a safety measure
That is a death sentence for recruitment and for negotiations. That was my sole point
70m for Mbuemo is a great transfer, I don't see a point in being reductive or talking about hypotheticals
He single handedly threw the ball into his own net enough times to tank us out of UCL
How the f*** is that over performing
He’s s*** and has been s*** from day 1
He’s also the reason we won our only game in the group lmao. Blaming him solely for our disastrous UCL campaign is silly, it was a defensive nightmare all around.
In 23/24 he faced the 5th most shots in the league, yet he had the highest save percentage. (These numbers varies slightly depending on what source/stats page you use.) A worse keeper, i.e. David De Gea, if facing that many shots, would have us in the bottom half of the table easy.
He started off last season very strong, no doubt a consequence of us strengthening the defense and him facing less shots, but I remember the narrative around him starting to change. I started calling him “the best keeper itw” and as much as that was a joke, it was based on many solid performances to start the season.
Then Amorim comes in, he immediately looks worse, the Arsenal game happens and he’s never the same again. 😔

You not seeing a point doesn’t change my point
Anyway i’m out

"A death sentence for recruitment" being said an hour after completing the big player transfer you wanted to sign ahead of the tour and season you wanted them for...
I'm not going to be convinced that the hypothetical dark arts misdirection would've saved us money on this deal when Cunha was always the benchmark, and it's always a positive when a big signing is made before pre-season tour

It’s not just this one example. This happens every time United go after a target. Many examples of overpaying for this lack of a strategy.
Anyway i’m cool with you disagreeing

It's a convenient and agreeable hypothetical because we have overpaid, but making it clear we have one and only target is not the sole reason we over pay, and suggesting it's all because of a simple oversight is lazy agenda seeking a***ysis that is reactionary and helps no one
Mf will say ineos is broke meanwhile this is gonna be another 200m summer lol
If you get the right manager this club is a power house
INEOS doesn’t control the money
They’re minority shareholders who don’t have the votes on the board to make final decisions
Not a single dollar from their share purchase was used to reduce the club’s outstanding debt
You will read and hear about how Amorim spent a warchest

You’re arguing a point i’m not making

The beautiful thing about hypotheticals is you can argue forever, we signed Mbuemo

I wasn’t posting that to go back and forth tbh
Congrats!
£65m+5 in add ons
€75m+6
$87m+7
Let’s see how it gets reported and talked about in September

Been given the minimum (if that) in my opinion so far
4 installments = £16.25m per season.
Cunha & Mbeumo cost this summer = £37.05m.
🤣
I’m this hopeful and excited every season 😁
