what makes it even worse is that 4 out of 6 3rd place teams advance. just stupid like all these group stage games are meaningless.

    Hmmm… Sort of.

The two defensive signings (Onana, Martinez) were great and absolutely correct for modern front foot football.

Casemiro… not so much. A fantastic first 8 months or so, but at age 30 having already won everything he wasn’t an ideal fit for the type of football we wanted to implement.

Mount is a good counter presser, agreed. But he wasn’t (and unfortunately isn’t) a good tactical fit. I still don’t think he will work with Fernandes in a midfield together. We were honestly better off keeping Fred for a season and then looking this summer for a replacement.

Antony does the tracking back, the ‘down’, but he doesn’t do the ‘up’. We couldn’t have anticipated he’d be this s***, to be fair. But now we’re stuck with a winger who doesn’t really have much upside other than he’s a diligent defensive marker and he’s good at keeping the ball (normally by passing it laterally).

Recruitment has been mishmash. A firm 5-6/10. Hopefully giving the reigns to Ashworth and Berrada (whenever the f*** they appear) will resolve that.

EDIT: I also think the one part that hasn’t been picked up, is that in central midfield. We’ve not had a high volume possession recycler in the squad for a while. We really need one of those and I really hope we actually target one.

Casemiro yeah has declined way faster than we could have imagined. We've learnt a lesson with him.

Ten Hag's on record saying he wanted De Jong alongside him, and I think he's clearly viewed Mount as the De Jong alternative (and Eriksen as that in the first season). I'm not ruling him out just yet, the qualities are there. He's calm on the ball, intelligent, has tons of stamina. I don't think we can judge him fairly, he got injured like two games in and then when he did come back for a bit Martinez and Shaw were both out. I'd like to see it tried the way Ten Hag has hopefully intended - CBs able to push up, a full back inverting into midfield, and with a DM who's legs aren't gone.

The only game I remember us doing that last season really was weirdly against Palace in the League Cup. That performance was amazing. The inverted full back coming into midfield (Amrabaat that day) allowed Mount to push up and we weren't so exposed and we dominated.

Antony yeah has work to do. The discipline and effort is there though, you can see the intent was to get a hard working winger, just the end product is lacking which I don't think anyone expected it to be lacking that much.

Overall though I at least think with all of Ten Hag's signings there's been a vision there, and they've tied into a desired playstyle - whether it's worked out always, no. But think of Ole signing Sancho or VDB, there was no vision there. That was just buying players that weren't advancing his playstyle at all.

mount cannot play that deep role. for Chelseas UCL he basically played furthest forward alongside Werner and Havertz.

Keane, wright, nev are my top tier. Jamie below them, but still fun dude.

schmeichel has less opinions but good to see around.

Micah is a moron probably my least liked.

Scholes is too calm so I wish he had more personality.

Rooney is not built for media at all so good hes going back to mgmt.

shearer I view same as schmeichel and they pair well together imo.

Owen I like his opinions on finishing and strikers.

rio I only realized he did media when I illegally streamed a UCL semi final game. enjoyed his opinions tho.

Hargreaves, good but needs more spice.

    Clichy - boring.

idk who im missing, those are the guys I see week in week out on my premier league streaming app here in Canada.

Sometimes I find Neville a bit too self-righteous, but yeah he’s up there.

I actually think Henry, Micah, and Carragher together is great, just think Micah is funny and entertaining.

Disagree on Owen though, verbal equivalent of paint drying for me, same with Jermaine Jenas.

Do you guys get everyone I mentioned on your coverage? I always find it odd that it seems like it’s easier to watch from outside the UK.
