I don't get why we even need this. Big clubs are doing fine, and small clubs who may not be as fine, don't even benefit from this rather the gap just gets larger with this.

how is the champions league - which literally has not been about actual 'champions' since the 2000s - not enough. we're even getting 5 teams from the top 2 leagues which is likely Spain and England. how is that not enough the CL is already a super league.

It’s basically just Real Madrid and Barcelona having a fit because in a post-Ronaldo and Messi world, La Liga went from being THE league to just being any other league. They’re jealous of PL money— granted, it’s basically their entire fault that money in La Liga is s*** outside of them two, and they want to live in a world where they can earn all the money and spend all the money without governance. UEFA is a monopoly, but I don’t know how going from one monopoly to another is attractive to anyone… (besides a few greedy owners) but given basically every big club has rejected this second proposal already and most leagues have come out against it, it’s nothing to worry about.

I think we had a big discussion on this a year back, and the way PL has set up to enable competitiveness from all teams along with proper payouts to relegated/promoted sides, fuels the financial power of the top teams by making the whole product more attractive. on top of excellent production, media, coverage, etc etc being levels ahead of any other competing league.

whereas la liga just bent over for barca/real and as a result made the whole league less compelling thus hurting barca/real financial power.

like you just know barca are fuming that girona are beating them and are going to find some way to cheat or whine about girona hurting the whole league. they're so entitled.
