I said he needs a proper DOF, Recruitment and Financial decisionmakers above him.

Sure let him say his piece, but having a list of potential targets should not lie on the manager.

What is hard to get about this?

Some signings are obvious like: De Jong (if he was willing), Kim Min-jae, Todibo, Kane (if the board was prioritising football)

But other than that the manager needs a target list to bounce off of. The only reason i assume Erik has this much power is because the recruitment department hasn’t been a success up til now and Erik feared they would force him to buy players that potentially couldn’t play his style. This is why i think a veto works and is enough.

The DOF should determine the desired style of play (in relation to the manager) and then determine the recruitment strategy and instruct the scouts what to look for.

Nobody, and certainly not a manager, should or could trust the United recruitment department up til now.

Man United are at faul for giving managers too much power leading to a thrown together squad of players of several different generations of managers.

That by no means takes the responsibility from Ten Hag away that all the players he wanted turn out desasters. Listing completely unrealistic targets like Harry Kane or Dejong is just stupid

It’s not that managers get “too much power”, the problem is that the board or decisionmakers “don’t take enough control and responsibility” because they don’t know enough about football to run the club on a performance based merit. They make commercial decisions at almost every turn and prioritize the marketability of signings over the development of their football strategy. And not to mention the horrid financial decisions, transfer negotiations, transfersums and wages.

The people who pay the players just hand bags of money over because the manager supposedly greenlighted them? Whose fault is that?

They should have installed people to direct the club under a cohesive vision and mission. With a whole slew of people under them.
