Joking aside, do genuinely think he could have gotten some solid minutes this season (so long as he could stay fit).

Feel we're a little thin now in terms of rotation for Bruno and Mount. But hopefully means Mejbri will be getting a proper chance.

From like a player profile standpoint:

Amrabat should be the main rotation with Case. Mctominay option 2 there.

Then Eriksen main backup to Mount and Bruno.

Mainoo able to play advanced or the sitting back role.

Obviously doesn't always work out that way perfectly. But VDB felt like a more natural backup option to Bruno/Mount, without our playstyle having to tweak too much, than the likely occasional scenario where Mctominay is going to have to play further upfield.

I don't think I'd buy anyone though, just give Mejbri a chance if needed. Only would buy if Mctom left too. And yeah hope Mainoo does get some proper minutes, excited about him.

yeah I hear you - it would be nice to have a real backup to mount/bruno. the drop-off from them to an eriksen/mctom is steep.

would be nice if we sell both McTom and VDB -> use those funds to buy a proper mid to backup bruno/mount. but bruno is never injured. and mount prior to last season was always a durable player. idk, it would have to be the right fit in terms of quality / willingness to not start that many games / be a big enough upgrade on VDB/McT.

Yeah definitely get you.

Bruno is no doubt insanely durable. But his quality really starts flagging when he's just very clearly in need of a rest. And we've always run into that situation these past two seasons. He still delivers key moments, but his overall game is just off.

But yeah a suitable backup is far easier said than done.
