First season tax is a legitimate thing, though. And these embarrassing results aren't limited to this season. They started under Ole, continued under Rangnick and continue now. The poor mentality problem is something that predates Ole. It's something that's most likely going to take even beyond next year to eradicate... and even then, results like that can still happen.

Squad depth has been an issue all-season but it's gotten especially bad since the start of February: Eriksen injury, Garnacho injury, VDB injury (say what you want about him but at least he was a body.) Martial obviously, Shaw getting a knock every other week, Malacia out for a bit. Casemiro suspended for a bunch of games, and now our starting CB pair, arguably the best one in the league is out for the rest of the season. Rashford has been beaten up over the past month, Bruno was in a walking boot just three days ago.

We are a very thin squad with a poor mentality that's hobbling to the finish line, and that doesn't fall on Ten Hag. It's on previous regimes and most importantly, the Glazers. Maybe there is some blame for overplaying some players but if he doesn't do that, we likely aren't in the position we are now.

We've seen glimpses of what Ten Hag ball can look like with this team, if he gets more of the players he wants in, and can get them to play it consistently, it's going to be a beautiful thing.

We NEED someone in recruitment that knows what he’s doing to get back to the top. Like we praise (or blame) the managers a lot for transfers, but Pep and Klopp weren’t watching 10 games a weekend and picking out the Salah’s, Luis Diaz’s, Ruben Dias etc, etc. Like I know he was s***e for us as a coach, but a man like Rangnick had like 5 (now considered top class players) lined up for us when he came in, need someone like him to do recruitment, can’t leave it up to EtH cus he can only judge on what he’s seen.

On the discourse on the previous page about ten Hag — I think the answer is somewhere inbetween what both posters are saying.

Ten Hag has come in and been dealt an awful hand with the club having their worst PL finish ever the season prior, having to deal with Ronaldo mega drama and a bunch of players just not capable of playing modern top level football — and with this in mind he’s won a cup, in a final of another and should get top 4.

That being said, fans are far too reticent to criticise and act like he’s infallible — he repeatedly makes some very questionable substitutions in game; he signed what can only be described as the worst no.9 to play for this club with the amount of game time he gets; and we’ve been embarrassed numerous times this season.

I think ten Hag is the right man and should be given time, but I definitely don’t agree with this idea of instantly dismissing some very obvious criticism that exists.

For me I think the ultimate deal breaker will be the De Gea situation. If he stays at this club I genuinely don’t think ten Hag will be any more successful than Jose or van Gaal (a few trophies without ever truly being “up there”).

I want him to win every PL and UCL possible going forward. I just feel the early warning signs are showing, and when they do show it’s catastrophic

The only real thing I can say about Ten Hag when judging him, is that even for his flaws, I don’t think that we could have gotten a better manager last summer or get a better manager in right now. So I’m not really going in on the super d***sucking or on the hate train. It’s the best we could get and we have to do with it imo🤷‍♂️

I'd much rather give Ten Hag more time than just needlessly sack him, especially when you take all the bs he's had to deal with into consideration.

He cost us the game with the subs vs Spurs and that was honestly ridiculous, but he's done brilliantly with the hand he was dealt and he clearly has the right mentality about the squad (the mass overhaul is already planned for the summer).
