Man when i was doing research id work for like 4 hours a day, did that for years

That's the thing, some people go to work for 8 hours, only actually work for 4 hours but then carry over stress about work into their home life and end up thinking about work when they're at home, if you show up and work for 8 hours and then go home on time I find it much easier to switch off than when I used to mess around

if you can work for only 4 hours and get away with it then so be it but I don't believe that works for me personally

I usually work for myself and take the shortest lunch possible cause I like to keep the momentum going and call it a day at a decent time. No way in f*** im having a gaming sesh at lunch just get your work day finished and do that when you get home so you don't feel the existential dread of going back to work while you game

I figured you had more of a project based job where you could come and go as you please as long as deadlines were met.

they scheduled you in for a shift of selling their s*** and you just take off for hours you ever at a store and cant find one damn employee to help you out, or see 4 checkout lines but only one cashier with a long ass line? thats your fault specifically.
