You base their inspirations on your own assumptions?

Can artists not be inspired by multiple things?
If it only happened once, we would not have a discussion about this but Coles major 3 album run takes definitely some inspiration from Kendricks album run at that time. Its not like that makes these albums worse. It just is what it is.

Correlation doesn’t equal causation. with the direct quotes out the artist/producers mouth existing, I’m not gonna try to create Disney fairytales to fit my narratives lmfao

if that’s the case, we would just sit here fantasizing about every album and be stuck in an echo chamber of opinions and he said, she said pointless perspectives like this niggas essay when the ARTIST and PRODUCERS have broken down the project extensively almost song by song and only mentioned Dot directly for one and gave him respect, which Cole woulda done as well before like he did for DAMN

Maybe they were trying to out-conscious each other if you can call that inspiration but that would be so lame if Cole was like basically trying to copy Kendrick every album cycle

J Cole is a lot taller than Kendrick Lamar

It wouldn't really make sense for him to keep trying to copy him

You being this dishonest just shows you refused to engage with the actual discussion.

You’re literally saying that if an album is inspired by something in an artists life, and they say that, then that’s the only influence there can be. That they then can’t have musical influences in addition to that inspiration from their life. Like, what the f*** kind of argument is that?

You know how albums are made you know the timelines in that time. Born Sinner was probably almost done by the time gkmc dropped, stop it

which is why i mentioned the producers who stated where cole got inspired from…such as on 4YEO which niggas keep saying “JAZZ INFLUENCE like TPAB” when them niggas were bumping SoundCloud beats…4YEO is a SoundCloud beat Cole rapped on for 8 minutes. overthinking this s*** bruhhhhh

yes, i usually believe what an artist tells me about the project they made and what went into it lmaooo

ya’ll do all that overthinking just to have niggas like Cole be like when that ain’t it all lmaoo

But I made it clear that wasn’t my take and that the jazz influence thing was overblown.

To me 4YEO is the weakest connection so I get why you’re the most mad at that one. But at this point you’re projecting other people’s arguments onto mine and still arguing against it after I say I don’t subscribe to that lol

No it’s just that you can’t be like this album influenced this album because I see similarities and they dropped at the Same time like what are you not getting?

Just because albums have similarities doesn’t mean they are direct influences

why did you correlate GKMC to FHD when Born Sinner dropped before FHD and Cole said FHD was inspired by a young black man getting murdered?

It’s not just that. It’s the whole picture of the big 3 and hip hop landscape at that time and how impactful gkmc was and Cole being a humble artist who clearly is down to take influence from stuff in the moment.

And once Cole told us that it was true about KOD, is it that much of a stretch to think Kendrick music had an impact on Cole music before that point? I think that one album being confirmed along with the similarities of the other two along with the timeline along with the impact that we know Kendrick albums had on conceptual albums, along with what we know about the two artists is enough to suggest that Kendrick’s albums had some influence on Cole’s work before KOD.

The alternative argument would be that Cole was not influenced by him at all until KOD. Which seems much more unbelievable to me

not tryna have a gotcha. you the one making up correlations and skipping an entire album cycle and release just to feel correct in your opinions when the artist and producers have spoken about the album inspiration and creation extensively

    have a good day lol
