That's not creative to me. That's alot of ppls problem with lupe man the song wasn't about all that. Lol. Sometimes the simplest s***nl gets the point across better.
The title of the song was “Arms Race” and Lupe actually rapped about Arms Race. I don’t get the issue here.
Dude I am not saying they don't respect his pen game. But they don't think he is in the same league as them. And he is not. Nas and Jay are both more relevant then him to this day and they came out way earlier than him. This is not hate, it is just fact. What he said was cap.
He clearly meant lyrically. And lyrically, he is on their level. His relevance or commercial success is irrelevant to that
And honestly, this beef to me is silly. I think both Lu and Royce have gotten caught in their egos.

It's not an issue it'd a discussion lol. And wayne took a more creative approach

Superstar became a hit because it was a good song. Has nothing to with the label shoving it down people's throats.
Thats why Atlantic wanted the 360 deal. Lupe has said this. The label was upset that Superstar was a hit while they had no hands in making it.
Think about it from the labels perspective. You have an artist under your watch make a top 10 hit without any involvement from your writers, producers, or promoters. That means you aren't making as much money off of the song had it instead been you that was the one that made the beat and the hook and gave it to Lupe to lay down the verses.
This is why they wanted to Lupe to sign a 360 deal. It was like, fine we may not make as much money on the music, but we'll make back the money on your merch, tours and endorsement deals.
Why do you think Lupe called LASERS a compromise? Because in order to get the album out Lupe had to either 1) sign a 360 deal or 2) start using Atlantic's prebaked records on the album. Lupe chose option 2. Hence why songs like Show Goes On, Words I Never Said, Out of my Head, Break the Chain, etc. were on LASERS because those were songs that Atlantic made themselves and had Lupe write the verses too. Those songs were all heavily pushed by Atlantic and were played on places like ESPN before some of those songs were even singles. Superstar never got that push. This is what Atlantic wanted, any song that becomes a hit from LASERS it would more than likely be one of their prebaked songs and they'll get maximum profits because it's fully their record that they themselves made.
This in turn hurt Lupe's rep. He was unblemished until Lasers and many moved on from him after that.
This makes sense and is a good take to be honest. I still believe Atlantic pushed it once it became apparent that it was a hit. Lasers was a tragedy. Can't believe that single album destroyed all of his momentum. After The Cool I was certain he would go on to be the man.

To think Atlantic were so close to ruining T&Y too. It was supposed to be some sort of trap poppy s*** with conscious rap. Lasers 2.0 basically.
So glad in the end we got the true vision of a classic album
F Atlantic

Yeah didn’t he say they had him doing tracks for months then a bunch of the samples didn’t clear and Atlantic just said “fuck it do what you want”. And we got one of Lupe’s best albums.
Really makes you wonder what Lupe’s career would’ve been like if he got full creative control for all of his albums. It’s really a damn shame.

The first paragraph what you said is true, and iirc they still continued delaying T&Y unless he put out some pop single. Therefore anonymous finally stepped in and forced them to put out the version of T&Y that Lupe wants
Without them I think we woulda gotten the botched version of album like down the road, in fact we woulda entered 2015 without that album or album would’ve never came out in fact

I don't think that'll happen because both of them are cool and tight with each other. More so than it was with Lupe and Royce.

I'm not gonna attack him from back then cause he struggled with drinking but right now that he is sober they all need to rap and leave the emotions out of it.
