Damn a24 scooped it up last minute. Read a lot of doom posting earlier today about how the film having no distributor after being shown a lot was a bad sign and maybe an early death for it’s Oscar chances.

Hope they distribute this well (civil war, maxxxine) and not bad (a lot of their other stuff)

With the way they have handled Sing Sing, I'm not overly optimistic about A24 being the distributor for this either

Sing Sing was easily my most anticipated film of 2024 and I'm not going to get a chance to see it in theaters. I'm a really big A24 fan and have defended them quite a bit in the past but this is unforgivable in my eyes

If what I’ve heard about this film is true, it’s by far going to be Luca’s most daring, ambitious, & edgy project to date. I’m not surprised a lot of studios were treading carefully with this one. A24 picking it up makes a lot sense given they typically don’t shy away from distributing bolder films. I would’ve guessed either them or Neon

I do worry the subject matter may ruin it’s Oscar chances (we all know Luca isn’t gonna hold back on adapting some of the more extreme material in the book) but I still think a Daniel Craig oscar nomination is very much in the cards

A24 has a lot on their plate this awards season between this, Sing Sing, We Live in Time, and A Different Man.

I honestly don’t think they’re gonna have to push much for this. Luca is hot off of Challengers, Craig is Craig, and Drew Starkey has younger audiences in a chokehold atm. I guess distribution is another thing entirely but even if this underperforms I don’t think it spells doom. I don’t think there’s anything that can take Craig out of the running.

We Live in Time is probably their only easier sell, and that may get priority when it comes to distribution even if its awards prognosis isn’t great.

Has anybody read the book to this or Junky? If so how is it. Was planning on buying them

I know I have 2024 in the title but honestly I would not be shocked at all if they made the decision to hold off on this until the next awards season, maybe give it a spring or early summer release next year. Especially considering it only just got picked up by A24, and Luca already has Challengers under his belt for this year (although at this point I don’t expect Challengers to rack up a lot of nominations, maaaybe score but that’s gonna be the only major one for them)

We’ll just have to wait & see 🤷🏻‍♂️

No shot they hold this for next year. The decision would’ve been made already.
