JJ Redick says he is "excited" to coach Luka Doncic but feels "empathy" for everyone that was involved in the trade.

JJ Redick said he is open to making larger changes to the Lakers’ starting lineup after they traded away their two best starting defenders in Anthony Davis and Max Christie. Luka Doncic, of course, will start, but he said he and his staff will evaluate the entire group.

Redick spent an hour with Luka after he landed on Sunday night at a hotel, and said they had a great talk. Obviously they knew each other as teammates, but Redick is focused on establishing the coach-player dynamic. They do have a head start, he noted, which helps.

JJ Redick acknowledged that the defensive importance of players like DFS, Vando, Gabe and Jaxson has increased after losing AD and Max.
