all the other songs are just giving me flashbacks to the recent Clairo album too much
I feel like you could swap the two singers and put them on each others album and it would still work
The Clairo album however has much more impact emotionally
This just feels like a pff
I think if Frank had dropped that album w little demon, DHL, in my room etc it would’ve had a similar reception to this tbh
Exactly
But honestly I think that album would have been incredible still but it definitely woulda been his most mixed reception album, whatever he drops next probably still will be but u never know w frank
tbh anything project he did was gonna be received way less post-Blonde
I personally still woulda loved that project a lot cause all three of those songs are crazy
same lol was gonna write that in there
But I think a lot of people viewed DHL especially in a similar way to Lordes singles for this like oh it’s a cool song I guess but not the direction I want at all kinda thing
That emotional baggage sketch is cringe
I feel like sometimes its more important for an artist to make a project that reflects where they are rather than like a super crazy artistic statement, especially on a 3rd album
I have a feeling Franks next album will be in this vein too tbh but obviously crazier
yep, those can be some my favorite types of records. i think where we get it f***ed up sometimes is thinking just because someone is gone for 3+ years that they've been working on one album the whole time.
artists can fall back from their craft and live their regular lives. concepts are conceived and scrapped. tracks are worked on, forgotten about, rehashed, reworked. that four year "hiatus" can really result to one year in a studio actually putting a project together.
I think this is a strong record overall.
Not without its problems. Mostly I find the sequencing to be weirdly jarring, and some songs don't quite lead into each other very well. Not entirely a smooth listen, which I felt was the intent.
But holy s***, some of these songs are unreal. The vocals are undeniably stellar, and the arrangements and musicality is so loose and relaxed. Almost improvisational in nature. Loved so much of what I heard. It doesn't surprise me that she seeked out drummers who worked on early Fiona Apple albums.
Overall, a fine first listen, and even though she gave us plenty of time to prepare for what this album is, I think many aren't really interested in the sound, which is understandable. But so much of what I love about Lorde is here in spades.
So dis mid?
If you like slow acoustic songs than you’ll love it
If you don’t then you’re on your own

Good thing I didn’t listen to Clairo then

Yeah that’s something I bring up a lot w frank too
Some artist are not always in album mode just bc they havent dropped an album in 4 years doesnt mean they’ve been working on an album for 4 years
That’s when Frank went DownHilL
DHL one of my favorite Frank songs at this point honestly
