Jun 4, 2021Aftermathbws_I really like it, but it depends what you’re looking for. This is banks kinda going the griselda route with the beats and spitting his ass off. There’s no commercial banks on here no real rnb feel. The only thing you’d consider mainstream would be the hook on panic which I didn’t enjoy. But great album that gets better with listens since it’s bar heavy
Good, this is exactly what I want from Banks.
No R&B tracks, no mainstream sounding forced pop records. Grimey NY rap.

you know how i feel about hooks like that, but i actually didn't mind it that much on that song because i love the beat and banks is bodying every f***in verse, so i can overlook the trendy s***. i'm just thankful it wasn't sprinkled all over the album

that was our main critiicism with jones' last project (or the one before it? can't remember) but no matter how much they force the trendy hook s*** on us it'll never be met with acceptance lol

It was both. El Capo was hard, but the deluxe was full of those hooks, then to a lesser extent so was the fraud tape

I got into rap in 02, you weren't even born yet, but rap used to be mad commercial back then as I guess you already now.
G-Unit, Jay, Nas, Ja, Nelly, Luda, Busta, Fat Joe, Snoop, Em,... everyone was making fun catchy rap. It wasn't just rapping and rapping, they knew how to make a song sound good and have replayability.
Think about Durk, I used to like his singing and rapping, now he's straight rap and I find him boring most of the time.
Or even your diaper hero. I love Rockstar and Find My Way, the musicallity in both is dope and makes me want to hit the replay button. The other stuff with him just going and going, nah.
You don't listen to rap as a trend for 20 years and quit when it's bigger than ever. I always say it, rap lost me when the south took over,
