I hate that black culture is in the spotlight man lol. In the black community we use spaz in a non offensive way. Our culture and language is in the spotlight and now we got outsiders trying to police how we talk n s***. They really trying to come in and gentrify our culture and I’m tired of it.
i mean no ones getting mad at key glock for using that as a title in a song. lizzo's international now though and is now open to a wider audience, one that's all about inclusivity and acceptance being her brand. it makes sense for her to be open to changing it.
now if A Kid Named Cudi drops on streaming services and cudi spazzin is taken off i'll agree lol
Spaz is not a slur you’re letting them brainwash you
I agree, but I can’t tell a disabled person who might’ve had that word used as a slur against them that it’s not one. In my personal experience though (and many others’), I’ve never heard it used in a derogatory way
Spaz is not a slur you’re letting them brainwash you
This is the problem. It’s like a fake feedback loop. 5 nobodies complain about something. A journalist dweeb who needs to pump out juicy articles finds a negative news story they can spin and starts giving into the complaint and then a bunch of emotionally confused babies on the internet read the headline and think they’re acting on the right side of history by agreeing with it. We need to simply stop acknowledging any of this.
Meanwhile Cardi B
You crazy?
B****, I’m ret arded!!
🤪 💀
These dorks ain’t know cause they ain’t listening to a Kay Flock remix tho lmfaooo
Are people actually mad at her for this or do they just want an excuse to s*** on lizzo?
seems like some of her fans were legitimately disappointed and upset, and s*** went viral and now it's muddied up

I get what you’re saying, and it’s definitely not a widespread thing because I think probably 90% of people have never heard this word used as a slur, but we can’t tell disabled people who have had the word used against them in a derogatory way that it’s not a slur to them.
But I agree this is being severely overblown because I feel like 9 out of 10 people had no idea there was anything wrong with the word spaz before today

The internet, especially Twitter, is maybe the best way in history for a small but determined group of people to b**** about something so much that it becomes "news"
Difference b/n spazz and the other slurs like nigga, f, r is the history behind those words and how they were used to actually put down and insult people.
As far as I know the usage of the spaz has primarily just been use inoffensively and never as an insult to a certain sect of people
Like is crazy going to be considered a slur now ?
Are people actually mad at her for this or do they just want an excuse to s*** on lizzo?
Karens from the UK demanded Lizzo conform to UK language and commanded her to change the lyrics. Tweet that started it
Tbh this s*** seems kinda silly to me but not to Lizzo’s audience. She cultivated that group she gotta deal with it
Like her whole thing is body positivity right? Can’t be using ableist slurs when that’s your brand
I’m pretty sure every insult has cancellable histories. Dumb? Ableist. Idiot? Ableist. Crazy? Ableist. Spaz? Ableist. Like I think at some point we just have to recognize that our society was pretty reprehensible when it’s foundations were constructed. Like do we just toss everything because it was made in a s***ty time?

Give it time
again i'm not really on social media like that and i kinda think the whole things a little silly but i see their point
it's a pretty minor thing to correct too so i don't see any issue with her fixing it either
Lizzo being a 34 year old woman is inevitably going to slip up a few more times whether it’s language, public actions or whatever else.
The next time she does or says some wild s*** the response probably won’t be one of “disappointment” and “desire to educate”
This is going to be used as evidence that she’s not actually a good person, that she enjoys hurting people even though she put out a great apology. That stuff never matters.
When she slips up again people are going to say s*** like “LMAO oh y’all remember she used an ableist slur right? This is nothing new.”
That’s the type of audience she’s courted and it just isn’t sustainable. No one should be held to the ridiculous standards people place on celebrities that present as progressive. It’s ridiculous and honestly I want to call it abusive the way some of these motherfuckers act like they have some moral high ground.
The responses to her apology have been patronizing as f*** too. Some of these people are genuinely just a******s who want to have any power over someone more powerful than them. Everything about this s*** is toxic
Give it time
This is the problem. We allow this totally inorganic process to happen. The same people saying “hear them out, they got a point” will be saying the same thing about crazy, dumb, moron, stupid etc in a couple years. This isn’t healthy.

It’s only ever about themselves and clout
🙄

what patronizing replies have u read? (genuinely asking, Im not on twitter)
exactly. Y’all both sound goofy right now.
31 pages because some British people got upset an artist KTT has said nothing but foul things about. People on both sides just love being upset online lol

The problem is those fans could easily be like okay she almost certainly didn’t know but they are like PISSED which is the silly part like hey man ease up that’s not common

The internet was a mistake honestly.

i agree 100% with this post.
for the record i never condemned her in this thread for saying it, it seems like an obvious mistake, and i never would've even thought twice about it if it were me.
just that i understood the complaint, and think she, because of the artist she is, was right to change it and delivered a good apology.
we live in a toxic world where people will throw your online mistakes back at you even after apologizing and moving on, and we have toxic people that'll dismiss a sincere apology as PR. F*** those people. Can't cater anything to them, but I don't think changing the line was for them.
