Oregon police working with armed Proud Boys members, a known neo-fascist organization

Well it's not Nordic levels of white , but def a lot more white than the US. But if you live in the relatively bigger cities it's not that bad.

This country is racist as f***, but it's a different type of racism than American racism, due to the differences in the country's history.

The US colonized Africans domestically by taking them away from Africa, the Netherlands was different, they did most of their colonialism outside of their own borders. The Netherlands barely had any black people until 1975, when Suriname gained independence and a lot of them immigrated to the Netherlands.

I would say that the biggest differences between racism in the US and in the Netherlands is that in the US there is relatively more systemic racism codified in law, in the Netherlands a lot more of the racism that black people experience comes from the fact that racist attitudes are completely left unchecked because racism isn't really talked about as much as in the US. Like white people think you're a weirdo if you talk about racism, they might even say "oh come on this isn't America, racism isn't an issue here"

In the US, even racists think that racism is a topic that's important to discuss, even if it's only to deny the fact that it exists, it's still a topic worth discussing, but in the Netherlands there's much more of just a complete apathy surrounding the topic.

Tldr: racism in the US is a relatively more active thing and institutionalized, whereas in the Netherlands it's more so about exclusion and attitudinal racism and apathy towards race issues are bigger issues.

A New York State Supreme Court judge on Thursday rejected a petition seeking the immediate release of hundreds of protesters who had been held by the New York Police Department for more than 24 hours, ruling that extraordinary circumstances justify indefinite detention.

Using a "crisis" to justify the suspension of civil liberties is usually what the US accuses other countries of doing right before they're about to invade them.

funny how the first time america has risen up as a country in decades is also right during a global pandemic where ppl have no jobs/school

its almost as if a 40 hour work week is designed specifically so we cannot do this
