what are people's ideas for instating police reform? I think most people would at least agree on, to begin with realistically:
-breaking up police unions or limiting union power
-community-based reform, officers should only be hired locally and must reside in communities they police in
-at least some degree of no-tolerance laws for violence/escalationother tangential ideas would probably include;
-more transparent policing & community data/access for civilians
-removing any form(s) of minimum sentencingthis is obviously just a start and removed from wider abstract concepts but this is all realistic and could be passed and put very quickly into place. longer term goals would be like ending the war on d****, weakening the DEA & changing the purpose of state troopers, prison reform, etc.
Police officers MUST patrol the area they live in or city they live in, no if and or butts, of course some will will get moved to the hood but they should make officers rotate in and out.
Thay way a cop isn't stuck at the downtown precinct for life

So a dude rolled by and saluted the national guard. I get it, he probably had his reasons (supporting the troops/ he's a vet himself/showing appreciation for them safeguarding after looting) but it seems kinda...tonedeaf to do that rn?
It's not like the national guard are doing anything wrong or wylin like police but still idk
