i'm a white dude living in a country plagued by the physical and mental scars of a failed revolution but seeing resistance on such a mass scale has filled me with hope that a better future is possible and i've never been more willing to fight for it, this isn't on some larping bolshevik s*** either, the future begins with black liberation and i really think (again, observing from a distance yet being as active in supporting the struggle as i possibly can) that we can make that future a reality. any other white people in the same position need to know we're gonna have to make a conscious effort to continue fighting and using our privilege to help secure that future once it stops being trendy to do so, there's no going back.
all these conservative twitter checkmarks hating on obama
This reminds me of the interview with Martin Lurther King where he talks about when the slaves were freed they were given no land and no economic base when there were millions of acres of land available for the migrated European peasants in the West and Midwest. And that while black folks were given freedom, it was really freedom to hunger--freedom to struggle. Making liberation truly a fantasy.
Only to be told by white people to "pick themselves up by the boot straps"--the same white people that benefited off the backs of those very slaves all those 244 years.
MLK was killed for advocating for economic equality. After desegregation, he eventually focused more and more on the economic aspect, and thats where the real power is, economic power, and that was the breaking point. So was Bobby Kennedy, amongst so many others
52? years later, still need that same message

i like your last sentence "when it stops being trendy to do so". so many white celebs and internet influencers are shouting blm and white privilege but in 3 months they'll prolly be back to their old selves. i hope this continues and the "trendiness" of it doesn't make it burn out

Yep. Aiding and abetting 2nd Degree Murder
Let's not forget that BLM started under Obama
Yes conservatives love blaming everything they perceive to be wrong with America on Obama (in large part because he's black), but that doesn't mean we should hold any illusions about who Obama is.
He wasn't part of the solution in the past and he won't be that in the future either.

100% correct, but I'd rather get a video message from him than a tweet of the president saying "when the looting starts, the shooting starts"

well BLM did start under Obama
they just mad cuz he's black obviously
Was Obama here when a global pandemic came here while we were unprepared, along with nationwide protests about racial injustice that have left our society broken and divided?

I would agree with that, but usually these protests fizzle out in 3-4 days. These protests are still going strong a week later and aren't stopping. EVERYBODY, normal people, people outside of this country, celebrities, anyone that aren't a MAGA bootlicker are furious at this situation and the way Bunker boy is handling it and have decided to say "FUCK THE POLICE" and take it into our own hands. There's white celebrities out there that have probably lost branding over this, and yet they decided to stand with us, and that's amazing.

The thing is Obama was president and got there because he believed in democracy. He has his own idea of democracy that includes stating all the time that if people want change - they should vote.
I agree with that, but it's only a small piece of the puzzle.
