Released in February 1980, considered to be the first hip-hop LP. Obviously I've heard Rapper's Delight but I can't say I've ever listened to the whole album before. As someone born 20 years after it came out, I've really only listened to albums from the mid-80s at the earliest and only really enjoy late 80s albums as far as my modern sensibilities go. If y'all have never listened to this album, or even if you have, I encourage you to give it a spin along with me. Let's appreciate some hip hop history today!

interestingly, we got no raps on track 1! this is a straight soul song!

very interesting album off of first listen! it's both the first hip hop record and also half not a hip hop record! i think it's also interesting how many tropes of old school hip hop can be seen in such an early release. i liked how the rap cuts are very much long cyphers between the different rappers!

to be honest, i don't know if it's a "good album" per se but a very interesting listen. maybe it wasn't "real hip hop" even for its day given the controversy over the rappers delight lyrics but a very influential record by nature. shoutout to hip hop history
