I think we've got to this point because drill artists are rewarded are rewarded to make the songs as violent as possible as it makes them the money as it gets the most views / streams - it gets the most views/streams as it shocks people and young kids see it like it's a cartoon and don't realise the weight of what theyre talking about - drill rappers are caricatures but they will continue to rap like this even if they get enlightened themselves as that's what makes money (ex 21 Savage , NLE Choppa) - labels are oppurtunists and are happy to fund as it sells and don't really care about the knock on effects like these artists spreading negativity and being bad role models for the youth. Even if all labels stopped signing artists the demand will be met from independent artists. The only way for this to end is to stop the demand from the audience but as a lot of the consumers are young kids on social media ( often from different countries too so even more removed from the reality) it won't and will likely get more extreme.

wolf was the last tyler album where nearly the whole thing sounded like the neptunes. that was a decade ago lmao we all witnessed him meld that with other influences to come up with his own style and sound less like them, especially on his albums
and when tyler did the gangsta grillz, literally no one else was doing it at the time. he restored the feeling and jumpstarted the brand again. it’s not like he was following the pack when he did that lol we can’t act like paying homage or referencing the classics equates to falling in line or biting. you can push the genre forward via bringing something back, we praise all the OGs for it
and most importantly, those are not the biggest elements of tyler’s last projects at all. flower boy kicked the door down for queer rap and sonically shifted the approach for the next generation. with igor he brought a level of showmanship we hadn’t seen since andre + kanye and essentially made this generation’s love below (musically, energy wise, not success wise) while also recontextualizing how a lot of young fans view sampling, the marriage of r&b + rap and even rollouts.
if you think tyler hasn’t pushed the genre and culture forward you’re trippin!
