Nah the ATCQ s*** I’m talking about is a full on anti-gay song them niggas was wylin

And I can’t say straight up agenda but an openly gay rapper would not have made it in the 90s bruh

    im saying it wasnt widespread

Yo you’re being extra as f*** bruh lmao my main point was that Thug and Tekashis backlash wasn’t as intense as LNX’s is right now.

Nigga put on a dress and still got them street collabs.

Tekashi fondled a 13 year old and still had songs with huge names in the industry.

Both these niggas have (or maybe had in Tekashi case) a larger rap fan base than LNX.

    all very very true

some ppl are just stuck in denial and don't wanna accept that maybe rap does have a homophobia problem worth looking at lol

what I wanna know is why. why so resistant to that? what would be so bad abt acknowledging homophobia in hip hop?

Sad he was forced to come out tbh & seemingly "had" to completely own it to raise above the backlash

S*** must suck really bad on a personal level and who knows if he was even prepared himself to come to terms with it like that

What was the reason he came out because of his islamaphobi ?!?!

hip-hop culture is homophobic. im not saying its inherently homophobic bc that makes it sound like its a core component of what hip hop is abt, like if it wasn't homophobic it wouldn't rlly be hip hop. no, I think hip hop can totally exist without homophobia, nothing inherently ties them together.

BUT hip hop in general, today, is broadly homophobic. homophobia is the norm, homophobia is assumed. I don't have the power to give u a study on this or a perfect a***ysis of every hip hop personality in the world, so yeah the best I can rlly do is anecdotal stuff and looking at specific examples, but I promise u im not making s*** up, hip hop generally doesn't like gay ppl.

and "I don't care abt gay ppl" is textbook toleration over understanding, like I was saying. ppl who don't care abt gay ppl usually still don't actually accept or understand them, they just tolerate them bc thats what they are told is right. and don't get me wrong thats wayyyy better than intolerance, but it is still just one step away from blatant homophobia. think of it as quiet homophobia.

actually, that works rlly well. to a lot of these ppl, there is some agreement along the lines of "you be quietly gay and ill be quietly homophobic" and past a certain point the contract is voided and blatant homophobia is totally fair game. that contract is terrible though, that's the issue. it doesn't solve anything it just pushes the homophobia deeper down. not to mention the terms only seem fair from a homophobe's perspective. to a gay person, being gay is who they are, they can't change it. they are being told "don't be urself too much or else". those aren't fair terms, its just bullying. but its absurdly hard to talk to ppl abt this because they will almost always say "I don't hate gay ppl I could care less about them as long as they stay out of my business"

I have a question for u. how could someone be too loudly gay? like what could they do to justify open homophobia?

if the culture was homophobic frank wouldn't be revered.

Idk the other user said he was "forced" by people digging into his past n putting it on blast.

Islamophobia isnt right tho regardless, i wasnt saying that if thats how you took it.

LNX is not a rapper and barely raps, of course the others would have a bigger rap fanbase

Lil Nas X still bigger overall

My point was controversy n ridiculing existed before Nas X happened

Yall went od extra with all the reaching n twisting you did but i digress

Except he’s actually rapping for a good amount of songs on the album. Like enough to the point where he can be considered a rapper by today’s standards

People using the he barely raps argument when it’s tons of rappers in the game who sing and do melodies now, the genre changed.

And yes ridiculing existed before LNX but the fact that all these rappers had no problem tapping in with a convicted pedo in Tekashi but are more offended by LNX’s antics should tell you something

    basically lol

twitter got leaked. he didn't even rlly come out, the fact he was gay was identified and spread before he even realized. but running w that and making that the main headline means nobody thinks twice abt the islamaphobia or the almost nudes

Disagree. He's obviously more pop n singing oriented. He does rap but i wouldnt say he isnt a rapper nor is in the genre of rap, he himself even seperated himself from rap way back.

There is a clear difference between Rap Singing n most of the way he sings.

Some rappers did. Thats on the other rappers. Some rappers are still with Nas X, but of course some would avoid him because they (sadly) dont like gays or dont wanna be misconstrued as gay themselves. He's still doing good.

Tell me what? That there are niggas that hate gay people? Not a revelation n never denied that. My point was on "antics".

if the culture was homophobic frank wouldn't be revered.

one thing thats super important is frank is bisexual, he still will put s*** abt f***ing women in his songs. and doing that definitely offsets the gay s***. second, he almost never ever talks about it outside music, and besides a couple explicit lines its almost always implied in his lyrics. In other words, it's super super not in ur face, abt as discreet as possible. it is entirely possible to be homophobic and still tolerate some quiet instances of gay ppl. same way racists can still have black friends.

But there have been rappers bro lol. Such as Trippie (who started the whole thing), meek n Rich the Kid n a few others.

Someone will always hate for something tho no matter how trivial or serious it is, that part specifically doesnt make Nas X unique.

But i do agree homophobia in general is bullshit. Just disagree that Nas X hate is a unique case.

  • Sep 29, 2021

real talk tho it does kinda come down to the music. Nas (and honestly tyler too) makes music that sounds good, but not in the same way a normal rap song sounds good. its nice, but it's not hard. that sound is rooted in simple bars and the drums the producer uses. if u deviate too much, u can still be appreciated, but still not respected in the greater hip hop sphere

Because he’s not and honestly shouldn’t be with all the f***ing weird gimmicks he’s been pulling lately, just let your music define who you are and leave it at that. Pulling a ridiculous PR stunt every month leaves a bad taste in a lot of peoples mouths. He would honestly most likely be more well off just dropping music and leaving it at that, he’s literally making people NOT want to check for him with the way he does so much s*** that DEMANDS attention.
