cool motivation to learn another language tbh
dont let these lazy niggas put you down, its actually a very valuable skill - spanish especially if youre in usa and leads to many job opportunities and bumps you up in the line for many jobs and promotions
also dont listen to anyones experience about learning in terms of difficultly - it literally varies person to person, your commitment and also how you learn - and if you have a real motivation to learn (which most people dont in school, theyre just doing it for a grade and then wonder why they dont retain anything)
a full year of serious learning will make you decent and able to get the gist of basic talks/reading
I already know French so I hope that will be a solid foundation to build upon given the romance language family tree.
I plan to be completely fluent by the deadline. Gracias muchacho!

2026! 13 months. I will be attending language events where Spanish will be spoken so I can train the real life application of it.
Wishing you luck. I'll be keeping a close eye on this thread and your future progress updates.

Not if it’s a year of scholastic learning no it won’t lol
Bro learning spatalian
immersion is the best way along with studying your grammar
Absolutely. As mentioned earlier, I plan to immerse myself with native speakers. Besides that, I will be watching movies in English with Spanish subs and the other way around further down the road

depends literally on your teacher and class - there are many that are basic or gist level in a year just as there is people that dont know anything after 3 years - and a lot of language depends heavbily on you actually using outside of just your lessons and your real desire to learn it to make your brain easier to retain it
bit most people in language classes are literally doing just for a grade, not for an actual skill
but he's not doings scholastic teaching anyways - he's doing self taught and in person lessons/experience

Comprensible input is the best way to learn a language and have it actually stick. It’s how you learned your native language
I put 1500 hours into Spanish within the span of a year and a few months. I went from what the f*** are they saying to watching native level tv and podcasts and reading books in Spanish
You don’t learn how to do that in school bc we teach second languages in an inherently flawed way in American schools

a decent school literally tells you and encourages you to use it irl and to absorb media
again, it depends on the school and person
but iirc, it is a statistic fact from some years ago most people arent in a language class to actually learn the language, theyre there just for the grade because most states require a language credit (which is a negative imo and makes language learning have this bad "stink" on it to most people)
there is also the thing of certain languages are "easier" depending on your native language
but regardless, language requires a lot of dedication that most people simply dont put in the effort to learn, even outside of s*** teachers and s*** schools - flashcards and a test is not everything, even decent schools will talk about this
and then the biggest thing of all, if you dont use it, then you will lose it. which usually happens a lot with college students too. they knew a decent amount in school, but never needed it again outside their grade, so they lost it for the most part and let that memory decay.
