Most samples sound lazy when you hear the original n it’s epic
I don’t usually like this mindset or way of thinking about beats and sampling
But
!https://youtu.be/jxILuhLm6hs?is=cH-XA6aKRDAHBkKpThere’s a world where you do this same concept and re-sampling and really make it hit hard but they did this so lazily. Driest drums ever, 808 is so muddy that it barely hits, sample is so stretched out and ugly processed to the point of barely even ringing out or sounding like anything
edit: 808 off key too. not playing the right bass line notes even slightly
Might be this fr. Actually hit the
my first listen and have skipped this song every single time since

Holy moly thats terrible
I meannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn how much stock we putting into just looping a sample and saying "welp that's it" ?
ngl i love a perfect loop (most of the time)
not every sample needs to be chopped and reversed into 20 pieces until it’s unrecognizable for it to be good
knowing when to stop/restraint also a part of having a good ear imo
might even be harder to just loop a perfect 4-8 bars and leave it as is for most producers cause it’s almost too easy/doesn’t feel like you did enough to call it your own or whatever
i could be wrong tho bean kickin in so im just rambling

Never noticed the 808s being so out of tune. Kinda crazy for such a big name release

Real asf! Some of the most beautiful beats can be a loop with barely anything else
That vibe and tone that be created from simply repeating a portion of a song can be unmatched.
Creates an entirely new mood, quality, energy, cadence just from hearing the end of a 4 bar loop smash cut back to the first bars again, in a way that the OG song was never meant to. That’s some of the most magical s***! And something literally only rap sampling can offer

The actual correct bass notes were right there within the sample in the opening section too. They play the sample uninterrupted to open the song, correct bass notes loud and clear, and instead of just playing the same notes with an 808 they messed up
Puffy the most egregious of all time with this s***
