Lamar then proceeded to play some cuts from his upcoming double disc LP “Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers”. Our first question was whether there were any thematic differences from each disc. Lamar simply stated “the music will speak for itself”.

The music did indeed speak for itself. The first disc “Mr. Morale” has Lamar booming over some of the smoothest production in the last decade. Accompanying the sleek production is Lamar covering some interesting content. The Jay Rock assisted “OverDone” sees Lamar going in depth into how his infamous 2013 “Control” verse affected his relationships with several of his peers. The hazy atmosphere of “Trepidation” sees Lamar providing insight on the high expectations the industry has set for him after his last 2 projects.

Metro Boomin’s ability to adapt to Kendrick Lamar’s ensemble of producers helps make this track one of the highlights on the first disc.

The second disc “Big Steppers” starts off with An energetic verse performed by Baby Keem, followed by a beat switch into Kendrick’s verse on the Cardo produced track “SikeuthoughtthiswasrealMMBScoming5/13”
