Fwiw nobody I know irl who was a prior Kendrick fan hates this album. I actually feel like this album has been received fairly positively but there’s definitely a weird obsession a lot of this site has with hating Kendrick. I guess it’s cool to s*** on the “””conscious””” rap idk what it is

Was tryna show through his family experiences how he had to grow and understand why the usage of certain words (like the ‘f’ bomb) wasnt cool and “choosing humanity over religion” showing that the society laws don’t compare to love for your fellow human being regardless of how they choose to live their life and what name or gender they go by. The theme of unlearning family traumas (like the transphobia that was shown towards his “auntie thats a man now” from his family that was able to protect Marian later on)

Unfortunately the usage of said ‘f’ bombs over and over was triggering for a lot of lgbtq listeners to the point the message can get lost and the conclusion relating it to a white girl saying nigga left folks confused. Of course some also understood and overall it’s pretty huge for a superstar at his level to even take a pro-trans stance on wax, even if the execution could’ve been so much better.

Kendrick’s top 2 in the “ooh so close!” in almost all his albums its wild how consistent he is at almost getting a point. But as mick jenkins once said, “if your comfort aint pivoting you ain’t listening right.” So i guess on that front kendrick did his job.

How y'all KTT boys listen to this album and watch these videos and think there is anybody close to this guy rn? Night and day between Kendrick and the rest of the mainstream.
