With that being said, Mr. Morale was a great album and him selling less then expected doesnt take away from the quality.
One thing I can appreciate is Kendrick doesnt make the same album twice (UU doesnt count cuz that's from TPAB sessions). So even if Mr. Morale wasn't the direction expected, at least you know next time he won't make Mr. Morale 2.
Rock album coming soon
I hope he and Keem (or PGlang) drop a collab project too

I think he going into a more DAMNesque direction on the next one. Not sonically but more pop appeal, less experimental tracks like Worldwide Steppers and We Cry Together.

I could see that, I highly doubt we get another five year wait barring anything extremely tragic
Might even drop next year he seems to be in a good creative space rn

We only waited 5 years cuz of COVID though
He would've dropped Summer 2020 if COVID never happened.

Album would have sounded very different based in the leaks, I wonder if the reception on this site (not that any of these awful opinion threads matter) would have been different

It doesnāt matter what he did, he wouldāve received criticism. If he just made a 70s inspired soul album, they wouldāve just said heās retreading ground from TPAB. If he had made a commercial hits album, people wouldāve just called it DAMN 2 and brushed it off. He couldāve made a rock rap album on some Yeezus s***, but that also had a high chance of alienating some people just like Mr. Morale did.
When youāre in Kendrickās position and youāve released multiple albums that have changed the game, it gets harder to keep up with people ridiculous expectations each go around.

Which is why itās admirable that no matter what he wonāt be boxed in to what we expect like you said earlier. Would I have enjoyed any of those types of albums from him? Yeah ofc but thatās because Iām ride or die for Kendrick.
Do you think DAMN made him too big in a sense? All eyes were already on him after GKMC and everyone wanted to know how he followed it up. Then we get the complete left turn with TPAB. But DAMN was commercially/culturally huge and put him under an even bigger microscope. Expectations were through the roof for this LP and the wait didnāt help. How do you follow up an album like that without sacrificing your artistic integrity or boxing yourself in to a lane?
You make MMBS
Still playing this f***ing album
Iāve decided I like TPAB and DAMN. more but this is another great addition to his discography and still my AOTY
beautiful honest and inspiring work
Canāt wait for his next album!
seeing him perform live makes me appreciate the album more
They finding every leak of his now
Waterfalls
Nah Falsehood WAAAYY too good to not be dropped
Niggas will understand this album & why it was so important in time.
I can certainly see this getting as much love on its 10th anniversary like all other Kenny projects would except Section 80 for some reason
I really underrated The Heart Part 5, and it's because I don't really look into lyrics that deeply when I first listen to new songs, especially rap
I'm only starting to really understand its greatness tbh
Any of yāall end up f***ing with the Tanna album much this year?
Tbh I really like it.

high key one of his greatest songs on a content and technical level
at first i didnāt love that they chose to push that for grammy consideration instead of only using songs from the album. but the more i thought about it, it truly was a moment and extremely timely and timeless all at once
i still wish it had more time to breathe before they rolled out the album. because what heās saying rings so true
weāre in a time where a lot of very vague platitudes get praised in rap as introspective or great observations of the culture but it falls flat to me.
āiām fighting demonsā and āniggas dying for no reasonā have been said so much the last 5 years it really means nothing when it comes through the speaker.
it takes a great writer to take such relatable concepts that so many are trying to articulate and provide the context, detail, emotional depth, cause, consequence and aftermath to where it can actually STRIKE you. and itās so hard to find in mainstream hip-hop now. when an artist has a huge platform like this and can perform at that level, it NEEDS to be acknowledged.
