Crown hadn't quite been clicking with me tbh but on a lit listen dam fam this s*** is heavy
That drake and kendrick line on father time honestly had nothing to do wit the song he just had to get that bar in it feels like
"Got some healing to do"
âEspecially when people got ambiguous favorsâ
I swear kendrick needs to stop with lines like this
lol what? how doesnt that make sense?
That drake and kendrick line on father time honestly had nothing to do wit the song he just had to get that bar in it feels like
yes it did. one of the aspects of the song is acting like a tough guy in place of actual maturity.
its kinda ironic that people nitpicking the lines dont have anything concrete just âits big words that are fillerâ or âhe had to get that line in thereâ.
trying to criticise hollow bars but the criticisms themselves are even hollower lol
After a lit listen I think I can safely say it's not just recency bias this s*** is legitimately a masterpiece. And he has at least 2 other masterpieces if not 3. I always tell people Kanye is my hands down favorite artist but I think I now have to say Kanye closely followed by Kenny
How does it
its explained in the following line: âbut they hearts not in it everythings for the paper.â
he also calls out capitalist companies for supporting causes that are really just a method of them to curry favour with consumers so they can continue doing what a capitalist company does - make money.
he also has that line about ârubbing elbows with people i thought were for the people, they all greedyâ, cant remember what song it was on.

He says before it he has an ego issue that makes him overly competitive, which would prevent him from doing something like Ye and Drake did. Seeing that situation made him reflect on that, and think about how hes a grown man with an inflated ego. The line is definitely in line with the concept of the song

He references Ye multiple times in the song tho
Just got back in town and got to talk to my room mates about the album, felt so good chopping it up about music with people who just enjoy music for the music
I feel bad for people not giving this a fair chance. Man delivered again. Liking this way more than Damn
I caught a couple of bodies myself, slid my community
My last Christmas toy drive in Compton handed out eulogies
Not because the rags in the park had red gradient
But because the high blood pressure flooded the caterin'
So what's the difference 'tween your life when hiding motives?
More fatalities and reality bring you closure
The noble person that goes to work and pray like they 'posed to?
Slaughter people too, your murder's just a bit slower
god damn one of his best verses ever
Favorite song off the album s*** had me geeked first listen

I liked this album on first listen but this is honestly one of the albums ive vibed with hardest ever tbh. Ive listened to nothing but this album since it came out and still taking s*** in
Feels like a lot of people talking s*** listened the night it came out and havent since
I totally get why Lupe loved sxn 80 but was disappointed in Kendricks output after until this album
Obviously the music is great the whole time but this feels like Kendrick speaking directly from the heart again idk how to explain it without it sounding like im trying to disrespect his other albums though
if you don't choose yourself (I'm sorry), who do you choose though
@Scratchin_Bandit
Well you can choose your own welbeing without giving up concerning yourself about the rest of the world
Kendrick gave a false dichotomy of either being a savior keeping his sanity, maybe a way to avoid the moral question of choosing only himself
I don't think his mindset is necessarily set in stone tho, it's interesting to see the change over time tho
After listening to the album about 10 times through, here are my thoughts.
This is a good album. I do not by any means think it is his best project. This album to me is a good level below TPAB and GKMC and i do not think that is bad at all. I do enjoy this better than DAMN. To me there is more substance and depth to this album than DAMN and it still has a good commercial feel with n95, silent hill, die hard, and purple hearts. I think a lot of this album flopped talk is overblown and honestly will end up being the best selling album in hip hop this year by far.
Fav songs: Silent Hill, Savior, N95, Die hard, Purple Hearts, Father Time, Wordwide Steppers, United in Grief.
Worst tracks: Crown, i have to skip this track every time. i can not stand it lol.
Mother i Sober, i have to skip this track too lol.
every thing else: they are okay. and i can listen too.

I just feel like the phrase âambiguous favorsâ is a kind of strange/weak way to portray that and it reminds me of a lot of Kendrick lines (mostly features) that are confusing ways of wording things

Are we taking into account enough that the song was pretty much a Noname response or rather a response to people who may have been complaining about his absence while starting his family? I donât think he said he doesnât care about the world anymore. I think what heâs saying is more subtle than that

Peep my second to last thread for my full thoughts on it if you havent yet
I think he has given up on making efforts to make a change besides his own life and family and that sentiment is expressed throughout the album, at least for now, not that he doesn't care at all, I think that's impossible to do for anybody except psychopaths tbh

i disagree personally, you could interpret it as a double entendre. favours as in favouring money over causes, or favours as in they will only will do something for you if you do something for them.
