The best thing about Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers is that it comes from within, from the depths of the psyche. It's not an album about George Floyd, nor about racial inequalities. It's not an album for the community, nor for feeding a war between him and Drake. He doesn't want to make a statement like good kid, m.A.A.d city, or change the world like To Pimp a Butterfly, or bang his head against walls like Damn.
It is not even a newscast, a philosophical dissertation or a treatise on the state of the art. He is a man rejecting the postulates of a hero, exposing himself with the day-to-day superman cape. Confused, indecisive, fearful, suspicious of the future, of America and the world, and making music about that act of courage that is love, in passion and in anger.
Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers is not perfect, nor does it seek to be. What makes it beautiful is the contradiction. It's Kendrick Lamar coming down from the skies to be among us again and be like us.
Wesleys theory still his best intro
