There is indeed a convincing enough exploration of race and sexual politics when Kendrick raps: āSciatica nerve pinch, I donāt know how to feel/Like the first time I f***ed a white b****.ā But the implicit misogynoir isnāt far from reach.
What
this is f***ing crazy

Said this in the P4K review thread

i expected P4K and Rolling Stone to underrate this album
not to be contrarian or anything, but to overemphasize how "problematic" and "unfiltered" the album is

watch these reviews change in a few years too when they do a re-review.
it don't matter this album is beautiful
"As Kendrick tells the story of a family memberās gender identity, he stumbles in the face of these kinds of inconsistencies. Simply co-opting a family memberās story is not the same as knowing their pain."
Yo this RS review wild
"It is indeed naive to ignore the complicated dynamics of attraction, love and violence, but so too is proffering them with too much meaning. We end on Paigeās character pleading for sex, a passively misogynistic take on female desire and male aggression."
Oh my god it keeps getting worse

"Black trauma, Kendrickās mother, partner, and aunt, the horrors of slavery, all clang together causing you to wonder who, exactly, all of this trauma dumping was meant to serve."
they ended it with this

i think this album and BCNR's album that came out earlier in the year are my first genuine 10s since joining KTT
i truly believe they both work as their magnum opuses and the best in their respective discogs
kendrick: so this is the story of a distant relative told from the point of view of my deceased childhood friend who's spirit represents a whole generation of kids born between 1980 and 1989
reviewers: ok mr self centered

Lotta big words to say nothing
this could end up dropping below 90 lmao but who cares
People were going at my neck early when I said this possibly will get a lower rating than his other albums just cause they seen it was at 100 on metacritic with like 4 reviews
Iām not wishing it but if any album of his doesnāt get the classic treatment, itāll be this one

i think it will gain the classic status over time
i've seen people switch up on this album after several listens because it just finally clicks for them
That might actually be the worst review i ever read from any of these publications
