Auntie Diaries isn't necessarily a pro trans / gay anthem tbh. He definitely respects how his family members are moving, but doesnt understand it all the way to say im pro this and that flat out. just his personal experiences missteps and all.
i cant speak on him using slurs, but the misgendering is just part of the narrative and i dont think i can fault him for that 🤷 I don't know if i just have the mental privilege of not being so affected by stuff like this, and i'm not saying that its okay to do what he did on a song in real life, but the context does give it a reason.
On the first part, I've definitely seen loads of kendrick/hip hop fans say how progressive and inspiring it is and yeah I'm kinda like...hes working through it and yeah he obviously loves and respects those close to him but I feel like it's doing him a disservice to act like it's this textureless tribute to the lgbtq+ community or progressivism w/e that is lol. Like I think the appeal/hook is literally that the track charts his own working through and confusion at the situation agto arrive at a good place. Ppl really wanna sand the edges off artists sometimes!
Interesting, I can respect this narrative but I also feel like everything you said can apply to Samurai Jack as well.
Plus I feel like shows like Batman: TAS were narrative driven as well
Oh ur absolutely right especially the later seasons of samurai Jack I think that show wasn’t as popular during it initial because it ran alongside anime and comic based action cartoons were the most popular things on that network at the time but shows like Batman the animated is great enough to stand on its own to mention alongside any television show you don’t even need to be a comic fan to enjoy it but serves as a great introduction to that world. Megas XLR should also be mentioned in terms of non comic based action shows from that era and S.W.A.T. kats
I will say though people have to stop telling trans and gay people how to "appropriately" react to the song
not everyone is not gonna share the same opinion on it , n people have a reason to be mad at it
and on the flipside i dont get people in the trans and gay community saying cis people shouldnt have an opinion, as if Kendrick isnt a cisgender man sharing his thoughts lmao
I would get it if he was a trans person but naw
Ngl tho as a black queer person it was very annoying watching people use the "if a white artist said the n word" artist
cuz 1) Bob Dylan already did it and the song is celebrated
and
2) it's a weak comparison
nah Jake Long
Oh word yeah I missed all those Disney joints.
What you know about Sagwa the Siamese Cat tho

It’s understandable but with our rights being taken and me seeing many other white lgbt people saying stupid s*** I think being mad at a song which is made to explain Kendricks new found understanding of his family is kinda like. lame. I’m not worried about the fact he like said either only thing i’m worried about is if he had permission from said family members to say their deadnames and s*** but otherwise the song is from. his perspective growing up from when he was a kid to now and I think it makes the narrative generally more real with hik retelling and detailing his f*** up and what he learned. Its ok to be critical but to not listen and understand these words is like whack. I also say this as a black trans woman cause to be real the experience with being black and trans is a whole other like demon and i’m glad at least theres a mainstream song that details said experience
It’s critic bait man, why is it so hard to admit for his fans? There’s no way trans issues was rattling his mind as a youth, it’s awkwardly put in there for an issue that has nothing about him.
