Go listen to C4 itās dope
Thanks for the rec, good to know C4 is the one to listen to. Iām curious enough that I will probably give it a spin
im putting this over damn atm
current rankings are probably:
gkmc
tpab
mr morale
damn
s80
uu
OD
S80
OD
UU
TPAB
GKMC
DAMN
MM&BS
I just love old Kendrick more.. Maybe its just high school nostalgia
Iāll even go as far as to say that TPAB and GKMC are probably objectively better, I just like this vibe a lot
I legit like this over GKMC tbh, kendrick is just so much more of a wild and exciting artist now
I get that C4 is a mixtape so it doesnāt count in the rankings but I would keep C4 over OD every day of the week. C4 is a fantastic mixtape IMO
Rapping wise C4 is good but nah
KLEP and OD is where he started finding himself artistically and his songs started to sound like more than just freestyles
Kendrick says he was always taught intention matters when it comes to the words you say. Then his cousin says wait a second Kendrick, you didnāt keep that same energy when that white girl said the n word. Her intention didnāt matter to you then cause you had an emotional response. So this creates a catch 22. Either intention doesnāt matter, and Kendrick was wrong for using the f slur on this very song, or intention does matter, and he was wrong for telling the girl not to say the n word. People will say oh, but itās from the perspective of his younger self. Yeah. Thatās what context is. Thatās what intention is. Thatās saying the n word when you read Huckleberry Finn. Thatās the contradiction.
But itās not a catch-22 to him, heās presenting it as a choice. Heās picked a side.
And itās something there is NO nuance about, regardless who likes to muddy the waters.
Words are about context, if they were just bad full stop then a black person couldnt say n-word because them being black is a layer of context.
I am surprised more people havenāt called Kendrick out for this. Itās blatantly PC and self serving for him not to admit he was wrong on both counts: he shouldnāt have embarrassed the fan nor should he have been derogatory by calling someone a f-word.
Iāll even go as far as to say that TPAB and GKMC are probably objectively better, I just like this vibe a lot
GKMC, TPAB and MM&TBS are all S tier so it doesn't really matter I suppose. Just what someone may prefer at the end of the day.

C4 has some real heat, so does OD though

yeah after i posted my list i realised that ive attached a lot of nostalgia to gkmc and to a lesser extent tpab, even damn was the soundtrack to my summer when it came out, that and flower boy

You are completely right I just think kendrick SPITTING over Carter 3 beats is so sick that I like it more than early stage conceptual kendrick

I like when Kendrick is less serious and down to earth but the MM&BS album really went a bit off for me. I just dont know what it is but it just didnt hit me. I feel musically its something i would like but also really tiring idk...
album grows on u, like most of his albums, crazy this man is the same dude who made "I"

Keeping a tape where he tryna be like Wayne over a tape where he found himself and his own sound is wild
Sleeping on this, listening to it sober a couple times and taking a couple of tracks out to tighten it up a bit i think i like this a lot more, still dont think its tpab, gkmc or even damn level but id put it above s80 atm, i think the album title, cover art and heart pt 5 had me expecting a more ambitious and conceptual album, but just looking at it like a therapy session of kendrick venting really helped me understand what he was tryna do
Still got no fkn clue why he went with that album title though

it can be heavy in spots, i really believe that this is one of those albums that your enjoyment of it is gonna be heavily influenced by what setting youāre in
like im glad my first listen of we cry together wasnt when i was out buying groceries or some s*** lol
good album but I gotta say DAMN was a far more cohesive album, DAMN just became a lot better in my eyes
