I just saw someone else have this take, and I completely agree: from a message standpoint, this is Kendrick’s least subtle album and it feels like he’s beating you over the head with the points he’s trying to get across.

I think that’s why there’s a disconnect for me and why I’m not totally in love with the album like some people are.

Also, that’s why I’ve been confused seeing some people say you need repeat listens to understand what he’s trying to say on this album because I feel like it was all very on the nose and in your face.

What is Kendrick trying to say in the end of Auntie Diaries?

Most of the 'controversial' parts make sense to me. The first two times he says "F* f* f*", he's telling the story of his childhood ignorance and not knowing any better, saying all these things not knowing the hurt he could cause his transgender relatives.

But the third time..when he's equating it to the white girl rapping maad city..what is he getting at?

It just feels like every point he’s trying to make he’s delivering in a very defensive, angry, and overstated way. There just feels like there’s a lack of subtlety and subtext that’s been present on his previous albums

He’s saying it will be okay to say the f word when it’s okay for a white chick to say the N word, aka Never

That’s what I get from it anyways

He's not saying that; his relative is saying it to him in the story as part of a conversation. Basically, if Kendrick is not OK with allowing a white girl to say the N word, why should someone LGBT be cool with someone using the F slur? It would be hypocritical for Kendrick to expect acceptance in that circumstance and he's acknowledging that.

Plenty people had issue with that parallel but I think it was well intentioned.

As far as I’m concerned this might comfortably end up being his #2 right below TPAB

But then again does ranking even matter when all 4 of his main albums are easily at the very least 8/10

Disagree I don’t think the meaning of this is nearly as obvious as gkmc and TPAB

though it's meant to be therapy

why should therapy be subtle or reminiscent of previous work that had the intrinsic goal of being more palatable with more cultivated presentation

this is seeming like it wants to be raw and angry and conflicted until the end where there's relief

also damn i dont think can be less unsubtle it's very explicit in pretty much each track and far less nuanced than this
